Things I’m Loving + A Giveaway

Phew! Life has been busy but good lately! I’m finally getting to another blog post this month, and luckily I was able to work on several more while my parents were in town this week.

For today’s post, I’m highlighting some recent finds I am loving. I’m featuring a running book that I will definitely be rereading before my next marathon, the training journal I’ve used for the last several years for tracking my mileage and workouts, and at the end of this post, I have a giveaway for a full-sized bottle of Beautycounter’s Overnight Resurfacing Peel.

26 Marathons by Meb Keflezighi
I have always loved autobiographies. And if there’s an autobiography of a runner, I’m sold. 26 Marathons was such a good book and one I could not put down. I’ve followed Meb’s running story a bit over the years (Hello, his winning of Boston in 2014 at the age of 39!), but I didn’t know/remember that he qualified for his 4th Olympic games at the age of 41 in the marathon.

I love Meb’s down-to-earth personality, hard work ethic, and being competitive with himself and his competitors during the race but congratulating them at the end of the race. Even if you aren’t a marathoner, there is still so much to be gained from this book such as the life lessons he’s learned through training and racing.

This book is definitely in my top 3 running books along with Deena Kastor’s book.

Fish Tacos with Mango-Avocado Salsa + Wild West Rice Salad
I am still obsessed with the Run Fast Eat Slow cookbook. I literally use it every week and find new recipes to make and remake oldies all the time. This past week I made the Fish Tacos with Mango-Avocado Salsa along with the Wild West Rice Salad. The fish tacos are really eat to make, and I prepped extra salad toppings, so I could remaking this salad several more times.

H&M Knit Turtleneck Sweater
I will spend extra money on jeans because I find the fit is better, and I know I will get my money’s use out of a $100+ pair of jeans. Sweaters, on the other hand, pill so easily after one season of use that I don’t usually pay more than about $50 for a sweater. I’ve found several sweaters at H&M that I love and wear all the time including this gray turtleneck one I purchased this year. It is really cozy, the perfect length for doing a front tuck, and the sleeves are actually long enough on me.

Compete Training Journal
This is the 5th year I’ve used either the Believe or Compete Training Journal. Both have a lot of extra helpful advice, tips for training, and pages for tracking your goals, honing in your mental preparedness, and overall setting your training up for a successful year.

I love the layout of the pages and the fact it is not year-specific. I actually got two of these for Christmas last year, so I used one last year and am using the second this year.

Heavenly Hunks
These are really good, and I’ve repurchased them many times from Costco. I try not too buy too many processed foods, but they are minimally processed and full of ingredients I can pronounce, so I feel better about grabbing one or two between meals.

Mama Bear Mug
We’ve started to accumulate quite the bear collection of things since Bjorn means ‘bear’ in Scandinavian languages. I initially got Craig a ‘Papa Bear’ mug and had to get myself a matching one that says ‘Mama Bear.’ I’ve been refilling this mug a lot lately with hot beverages as the temps have been below zero since the first of the year!

Mother’s Milk Tea
I’m still exclusively breastfeeding Bjorn, but I can feel my supply dip after a long run or if I don’t stay on top of hydrating, eating enough, or if I get too stressed. I love this Mother’s Milk tea (along with the Cashew Chocolate Lactation Bites) for keeping my supply up.

Below Zero Temps
This is one thing I am not loving! But the winter season is when the base is built and gets me ready for running fast this spring and summer, so I endure the temps and enjoy our perfect summer weather that much more!

I have a post coming later this month with a four month postpartum update at the end of the month, so check back for that and let me know if you have any questions regarding my return to running. Overall, my return to running has been going really well, and I’m feeling fitter and stronger each week.

Beautycounter’s Overnight Resurfacing Peel
I’m giving away a full-sized bottle of Beautycounter’s Overnight Resurfacing Peel over on my Instagram account. Comment on this post with what you are doing this year to be a little more green and friendly to our environment in order to be entered to win. And if you need ideas about how to up your greeness, also check out the post because there are some really good ideas such as rewashing plastic sandwich/snack bags, carrying your own silverware and reusable straw, and not buying individually wrapped snacks (string cheese, applesauce packets, etc.). I need to remember to bring my reusable produce bags and my own cup when I go to the coffee shop.

I have some more posts coming later on this month including an update on life in general, another ‘day in the life’ post, and what I really think of Lululemon clothes.

Happy Thursday and go run some miles this weekend (if that’s your thing)! 🙂

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.

I love favorites posts! Thanks for sharing 🙂 I also have real trouble getting sweaters to not pill. If you know of a way to keep them for pilling (that doesn’t involve me hand washing them cause no), id love to know. Do you think that training journal would be good for triathlon training or is it mostly for running?

Even hand washing doesn’t prevent mine from pilling. For me it is just general wear. I know they make those pill ‘shavers,’ and I’ve heard they work well.

And I do think the training journal would work well for triathletes. It has a large box to write down notes from your workouts, so you could easily add in your swimming and/or biking workouts/comments as well. Each week you do add up your weekly mileage, so there wouldn’t necessarily be a place to add each activity’s distance separately.
