We’re in Minnesota! + Running Shorts that Won’t Disappoint

It’s been a busy week and a half, which is why I haven’t gotten around to post lately, but Cullen and I are now in Minnesota and here for the Twin Cities Marathon in 2.5 weeks!

Last week we were busy prepping food for Craig’s hunting trip, and I had to make sure I had everything ready to go for Cullen and I to fly to Minnesota. I basically had to have everything packed on Friday because I worked on Saturday and Sunday, plus a long run Saturday morning and two runs on Sunday. It was a really full weekend without a minute to spare, but everything went seamless thanks to my neurotic pre-planning.

Run 1 of 2 in the stroller on Sunday since Craig was gone hunting.

Cullen was so excited to go to Minnesota that he didn’t take a nap on Sunday and was up from 6:00 a.m. Sunday morning until 1:00 a.m. Monday morning! Thankfully he was super good and nodded off within a few minutes of take-off while trying to eat an apple. We left our house at 10:30 p.m. Sunday night and finally got to my parent’s house at 5:30 p.m. (2:30 p.m. Alaska time) Monday evening, so it was a long night/day of travel with two layovers (Seattle and Portland), which is what happens when you use your travel rewards.

Flying into Minneapolis/St. Paul

Monday night I went out for an easy 6 miles to shake-out the legs a bit. It has been in the low-80s this week, and I am LOVING it! I just wish I would have brought more of my summer clothes along that never get worn in Alaska. I didn’t realize it was going to be this warm for most of the week. I checked the weather when I was packing on Friday, but I only saw 80s for the beginning of the week, but that must have changed over the weekend after I had packed.

This morning I did a goal marathon pace workout that started out well, but then the humidity got to me, and I tanked. My workout was 3 x 3 miles at goal marathon pace (6:45 – 6:49). I felt really good for the first two sets and hit the prescribed paces, but the last set wasn’t anywhere close to the goal pace. But I did complete the workout, which is a win in itself.

Set 1 – 6:44, 6:50, 6:43

Set 2 – 6:46, 6:47, 6:48

Set 3 – 6:57, 7:03, 7:15

We have been relaxing and enjoying the country life here at my parent’s. Cullen loves seeing the pigs, kittens, and all of the wild creatures that come through my parent’s backyard: turkeys, deer, and humming birds so far. I love the quietness and how you forget about the craziness that can sometimes come with city life.

Lastly, I wanted to share about a (fairly) new running brand that has been all the buzz this summer.

I first heard about Rabbit running gear from my athlete, Sam, and then started seeing more people wearing it and heard amazing things about their running shorts, so I snagged a pair that was on sale, and I’m glad I did because I’m in love! Shorts that don’t ride up, have a comfortable waistband, several pockets, and are super lightweight.

I am wearing the ‘Catch Me If You Can’ running shorts, which are their 2.5 inch running shorts, and they are currently on sale for $30. Plus, you can save an additional 10% with the code: FRIEND-WHNSL9H. (And no this is not a sponsored post; they don’t even know I exist.)

This company really knows what they are doing with their running gear, and I’m already eyeing several other pieces to try.

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.
