We Bought a House!

I can’t believe it finally happened!

We bought a house in Minnesota!

We moved to Minnesota from Alaska last July and finally now in March we closed on our house. It was a long process, but I am so happy to finally be in a place of our own!

We got back from Hawaii on a Thursday afternoon and then closed on the house the next morning, so it was a whirlwind time, but also such an exciting time. We started moving things in right away and spent about five days getting things set up before we slept at the new house.

We are slowly getting furniture added, pictures on the walls, and decor throughout the house. It is going to take a while to get it fully furnished because we have had to buy all new stuff since moving from Alaska. We sold nearly everything in our move: beds, couches, all of our decor items, kitchen utensils and supplies. . . .practically everything!

So there have been lot of online shopping orders placed, boxes delivered, trips to the Cities to look at things or pick items up, and pieces of furniture put together and assembled. (Thanks to Craig and my dad for assembling all of those things!)

But all-in-all, the house already feels perfect for our family. There are three bedrooms upstairs, so each of the boys have their own bedroom, and then there’s a guest bedroom downstairs. The kitchen, living room, and dining room are all together and have an open concept, which is what we wanted. Plus, we got our vaulted ceilings, which is something we have had at every place Craig and I have lived.

My office is a sunroom off the master bedroom, and it is already my favorite room in the house. The garage is oversized, and there is the perfect place for a home gym, which I cannot wait to get set up.

We got everything moved in as quickly as possible, and there were some nights with very little sleep, but it is done now, and I can focus on life again: running, work, the boys, etc.

The first night in the house we had pizza, naturally. Craig and I had pizza the first night in our house back in Anchorage too. (I’m sure it is a common meal when moving.)

The back story on this house is that we initially saw it the day after Thanksgiving. I fell in love with it right away. I literally would wake up in the middle of the night, dream about us living there, how I would decorate it, and all the great things about it. But Craig was hesitant because of the price, so we waited for other homes to come on the market. Well, the holiday season and New Year is not a great time to be house hunting because there’s almost nothing that comes up. We told our realtor that if anyone put an offer in on this house to let us know and we would consider putting an offer in as well. Toward the middle of January, we were told someone else put an offer in on the house. We went back and forth on whether we should put an offer in and if we did, what we should offer. We finally came to an agreement (after much deep, deep discussions) an a price. I was pretty sure it wasn’t high enough and the next morning we found out the sellers accepted the other offer. Part of me was glad to have an answer, so I could be done dreaming about it, but it was also my prayer that if it was meant for us, to let the other offer fall through. And lo-and-behold a few days later I got a text from our realtor saying the other offer fell through and the seller’s sent us a counteroffer. We ultimately accepted the counteroffer (once again after a lot of discussion), and now it’s ours!

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.
