5 Small Business for Runners

Today is Small Business Saturday, and these are a few of my favorite running-related small businesses you can support from wherever you live. Of course you should still support those in your community as well, but if you don’t live near a running store or have access to some of these other great products, give them a try, and you’ll see why I love them so much.

So grab a cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate and start checking off those gifts you need to purchase for others (or yourself. . . .I won’t tell).

5 small businesses you can support from anywhere:

  1. Skinny Raven Sports – Yes, they are my employer, but they truly are a great business with great people! We try to stay up on the running trends, have fun and unique items, and sell running shoes and brands we stand behind (because not all running shoe brands want to partner with running specialty stores). Thankfully we got our website with products up and running right before Covid hit, and it really saved us during a trying and difficult time!
  2. Sarah Marie Design Studio – Such cute and fun running-specific t-shirts, sweatshirts, and tanks with fun sayings on them. She also has necklaces, greeting cards, and mugs. For Small Business Saturday, you can get 20% with the code SHOPSMALL. I used this tank to announce my pregnancy and this sweatshirt that is super cozy that I still wear.
  3. Skida – You guys have heard me rave about the headbands I use for running, and I get asked often where they are from. They are a local company based out of Vermont, and there is some connection to Alaska, which may be why we carry their products at the running store here. Anyway, go check out their headbands and neck warmers as well as their entire cashmere line! Everything is pretty and so well made.
  4. Picky Bars – Still a relatively small company but getting to be a well-known nutrition energy bar in the running community. They have bars designed for recovery with a 3:1 ratio of carbs to protein, oatmeal, and a new nut butter.
  5. And depending upon what you think constitutes a ‘small business’ there are small-er companies who make running clothes such as rabbit and even Oiselle in some regards. They are definitely smaller businesses where the owners are heavily involved in the operation of the business, but have now exploded as well-known names in the running world.

Please comment below with other running-related small businesses because I feel like I’m leaving some out!

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.
