Weekend Recap & Catching Up

I got back to Alaska late Friday night and have been playing catch-up on everything around here since I got back: unpacking, cleaning, laundry, and coaching work.

A trip to the grocery store was definitely in order Saturday afternoon. We stocked up on a lot of produce and other essentials.

Traveling often gets my diet off-kilter, so it was nice to get back to my normal diet regimen. My late lunch was a corn tortilla topped with a scrambled egg, onions, red pepper, avocado, and salsa. It was scrumptious.

Saturday evening we stopped by our friend’s place to see their new baby. Glen and Carol had a baby girl, and Craig got to hold the two-day old little one. She was so precious and slept soundly while Craig held her.

We brought the new baby this book written and illustrated by locals that we found at a gift shop downtown.

Dinner was an English muffin with peanut butter + an Orange Crush smoothie. I found the recipe in a magazine, but changed it up to fit what I had in the house.

Orange Crush Smoothie

2/3 cup orange juice

1 carrot

1/2 banana

2 Tablespoons hemp protein powder

1 piece crystallized ginger

dash of allspice

Sunday morning I had high hopes of running at least 6 miles, if not 7 or 8, but that did not happen. I took two running steps after stepping outside, and I could immediately feel my back become aggravated. It was sore on Friday and Saturday, so it didn’t surprise me when it was not happy when I tried running this morning. I ended up running a mile with some walk breaks. I have a chiropractic appointment later this week, so hopefully that will help.

Instead of running, I took the pooch for a walk.

By the time I got back home, I was starving. I decided I would make a bowl of oatmeal, but I knew that wouldn’t fill me up that much since it is mostly just carbohydrates. To add some protein, I scrambled an egg in with the oatmeal while it was cooking. It might sound odd, but it was actually quite good!

Once the oatmeal and egg were done cooking, I added fresh blueberries, walnuts, brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract.

After church, I went to a yoga class for an hour this afternoon. My back feels more limber and less painful this evening, so hopefully it helped. I also have an appointment for ART (active release therapy) in the morning, so hopefully that will give my back some relief.

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.
