Lunch at Home

We escaped one more day of snow! However, the mountains are covered with snow which means the Anchorage “bowl” will soon be white as well. 🙁 I am glad it has held off as long as it has though. 🙂

I had the luxury of being able to prepare and eat lunch at home today. It was so nice to be able to prepare something for myself in the convenience of my own kitchen. While I had good intentions of taking extra time to prepare something, by the time I got home, I was starving, so a quick salad it was.

My salad consisted of: leaf lettuce, tomatoes, green onion, feta, kalamata olives, and Annie’s Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing. (Hmm. . . my salad looks oddly familiar. I guess it shows my lack of creativity with salad toppings.)

I also included some carrot sticks and a piece of toast with butter.

And a pear for some fruit!

My mid-morning snack was a Luna bar – Blueberry Bliss. I thought it had a great blueberry flavor, but I did like the Almond Vanilla kind better that I had earlier in the week. (Sorry that the picture is out of focus.)

Now backing up to yesterday. . . .

As I left work yesterday and walked outside, I was greeted by a cool 40 degrees and drizzly rain–not exactly the most ideal conditions for the afternoon run I had planned. I was walking out with another gal who said, “well, I guess I won’t be going out for my run anymore.” But the elitist in me said, “you know what, I am not going to let this rain stop me!” Yes, it did take some extra self-motivation/self-discipline to leave my warm apartment for a run, but I have to admit, I felt pretty hard-core for beating the weather and not letting it stop me!

While out on my 6-mile run, I was in the zone and at one point glanced over to my left and saw a huge bull moose literally 20 feet from me! I let out a little “ah,” but really didn’t flinch that much, and then continued on my merry way. After living here for 3 years, it is crazy how numb you become to the sight of moose.

After my run, I also did a weight lifting session at home. I did a variety of lifts with our dumbbells for my upper and lower body and worked my core with our exercise ball. I know I got a good workout because my bum is sore today!

I took the morning off from running today. I considered going out, but after a 6 mile run last night and a pretty good chunk of time spent weight lifting, I was feeling a little beat. Plus I’m cutting my mileage back and using this week as a recovery week after my half-marathon last Saturday.

Question

I really want to buy a digital SLR camera. Any suggestions/recommendations?

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.

I saw bears on my run in upstate new york about a month ago. I have never been so scared in my life. I’m glad someone else is experiencing the cold weather too-I have read so many blogs about the weather being 70 degrees and I’m ultra jealous.

Me too!!! I get super jealous reading how other people are running in shorts and a t-shirt!!
Bears–yikes!! I have never seen a bear while out running, but that would be incredibly scary!!

That would be a little scary to see a moose close by. As far as cameras go, I think there are lots out there that are all good. It was a tough decision, but I got a Canon Rebel T1i. I have enjoyed it, but am still learning how to use the manual settings. Not sure that helps!
