Is Your Skin Ready for Spring?

I cannot explain how happy I am that winter is over! I forget how draining winter is until it is over.

We have been so lucky to have sunshine and 40+*F weather here for the past few weeks. This is NOT the norm in Alaska, but I am NOT complaining: running on dry pavement, Cullen playing outside a lot more, sunshine shining into our house, and a lift in our mood, feels like a breath of fresh air.

I’ve shed some of the outer layers, painted my nails a springy color, pulled out the pink tops and light colored jeans, which is so refreshing. In addition to changing out my wardrobe and accessories, I am also making changes in my skin care and makeup routine to get ready for spring and eventually summer as well.

To start off, I am sloughing off all of those old, dead skin cells and revealing a more radiant, glowing skin for spring and summer with the Overnight Resurfacing Peel. This is–and always has been–a favorite of mine. I cannot tell you how many success stories I’ve heard with just this single product alone.

The next best product for cleaning out those pores is the Charcoal No. 3 Balancing Face Mask. It gets into your pores, extracts all of the unnecessary oils and gunk that clogs your pores. It does dry out your skin some–which is a property of the product, so be sure to have a good moisturizer to put on right away, but it also leaves my face really soft and feeling so clean. I have customers who swear by this stuff!

In the summer time, I find my skin can fluctuate between dry in the morning and then oilier as the day goes on, which is why I love the Countermatch Adaptive Moisture Lotion. As the name implies, this daytime moisturizing lotion with adapt to your skin’s needs throughout the day. For areas that are dry, it will give more moisture to, and areas that are oily, it won’t–how ingenious is that!

As for makeup items, I don’t change too much of my makeup routine in the summer versus the winter, but I do find myself using the Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer more in the summer than in the winter. It gives your skin the perfect sun-kissed glow after putting it on. It is also nice and lightweight for the warmer months. Plus, it has SPF in it, which is perfect for being outdoors more.

If your skin is oily or gets oily by the afternoon, the Mattifying Powder is your ticket for helping combat this. It works so well by absorbing excess oil at the beginning of the day and keeping the oil at bay throughout the day. I also use it to set my makeup and keep it in place all day.

I love warmer, pink tones for spring and summer. This Satin Powder Blush in Nectar is so pretty for the warmer months, and I love the hint of shimmer it has. Apply it to the apples of your cheeks for an instant face-brightening color. I used to be so scared of blush–thinking it would make me look like a clown, but now I can’t go without it!

If you want even more contouring to your face and cheeks, I’d highly recommend a bronzer and highlighter. Applying all three is actually super easy and hardly takes any more time.

I’ve been finding myself wearing more color on my lips now that winter is over. I love the Lip Glosses year-round, but the shimmery Bare Shimmer shade is perfect for spring. I am also loving the color First Date, which is a fun, bright pink for spring. Plus, the Color Intense Lipsticks have a bolder color that stay on longer.

Finally, I have to give a shout-out to the new Brow Gel that I am loving for keeping all of my brow hairs in place and giving a nice even color throughout my entire brow. It is really easy to use with its small brush, and it has a nice matte finish. (I’ve only tried one other brow gel, but it was terrible. It was so sticky, and it has this really oily, gel finish to it that did not look natural at all. I promise Beautycounter’s brow gel is one-hundred times better.)

In addition to these items, be sure to stock up on Beautycounter’s sunscreen which is non-nano zinc oxide based and much safer for your skin. These sunscreens are also safe for the coral reefs. There is two sizes of the regular lotion sunscreen, a sunscreen stick, the travel-sized spray, and a regular-sized sunscreen spray. (Sadly, if you live in Alaska, Hawaii, or Puerto Rico, the spray sunscreens cannot be shipped to you because they can’t travel via air.)

Right now Beautycounter is having a sale on almost everything on their website (minus items that are already discounted and bundled in a package/line), which is not something that comes around very often! If you have been considering trying safer, non-toxic beauty products, now is the time to do so. I can’t stress how much I love these products and how much better my skin looks in the past two years since using Beautycounter products. I still get an occasional breakout, but not like I used to, and my skin’s tone is more even, my pores are smaller, and the fact these products are safer to use is an added bonus!
