Lately

It is finally starting to feel like “summer” here. Summer in Alaska (at least in the Anchorage area) is about 60* and sunny half the time. So while it is far from an ideal summer in my book, I know it is the best we will get, and I’m just glad that winter is over.

We have three large flowering bushes in our front yard that bloom this time of year, which I absolutely love! The first to bloom are the Mayday trees with white blossoms that smell so good! We also have a lilac bush (which also smell amazing) and a crab apple tree that produces the most vibrant pink flowers!

There has been quite a bit going on that I need to catch you guys up on!

First off, two weekends ago, I had three athletes run in the Trent/Waldron race here in Anchorage. Veronica ran the 10K and cut 8 minutes (yes, MINUTES) off her previous PR running a 1:04 in the 10K. We started working together in January, and she has made HUGE improvements. She had some big time goals, and we are getting very close to achieving them!

Alicia ran a 30 second PR in the half marathon in the middle of marathon training running a 1:52. She lives in the bush (which is any remote area of the state), so she trains on one very flat gravel road. She’s running the Anchorage Mayor’s Marathon in a couple of weeks, which will be her first marathon, and I’m excited to see what she can do!

Sam ran the half marathon as well and matched his PR from last fall of 1:34, which we were happy about since he’s been dealing with an injury this spring. He said he was going to take it easy (which is did to some extent), so the next half marathon he runs he will easily PR.

On Memorial Day I hosted a girls bRUNch = run + brunch, and we ran 7 miles and then we brunched on some delicious food. I try to do this a couple times a year, and while it takes some coordinating, I’d highly recommend you doing this with all of your running friends. It was a great time to get everyone together for a fun morning.

This cute kid started swimming lessons this week, got his summer haircut, and picks up on bigger words every day. He’s no longer my baby anymore and turning into a very sweet, considerate kid. Also, why is it so fun to have matching outfits with your child? We got our Team Raven sweatshirts on from the running store I work at: Skinny Raven.

This weekend, Craig and I are headed to Seattle for our 10th anniversary! This is our first trip together without Cullen. . . it only took us 3.5 years to make it happen! We have loose plans, so it will be fun to fly by the seat of our pants for once! Leave any restaurant, hiking, or suggestions on what to do below!

I hope everyone had a good Global Running Day. Unfortunately my hamstring is still sore from the Twilight 12K, and my better judgement knew I should rest today. I did coach a group of women for the Hightail Training Group this morning, so I did participate in some way.

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.
