DIY Valentine’s Gift for Runners

I am not (repeat NOT) a DIY-er. I have to give Craig all the credit for this one as this was his Valentine’s gift to me last year. (This year he got me a car, which means at this rate, he’ll have some big shoes to fill next year!)

This is a very easy Valentine gift for the runner in your life. It makes it look like you put a lot of thought and effort into this gift, but in reality it was super easy and affordable.

You’ll want to start by finding a pink, red, or white water bottle along with 6-8 lightweight running-related items. I used a pair of Feetures socks (one of my favorite brands), a  “I <3 13.1” sticker, a packet of Skratch electrolyte mix, a Skinny Raven gift card, Huma energy gel, and Nuun tablets. To hold each of the items, I used wood skewers that you use when grilled kabobs in the summer. Finally, the last item you will need is a nice (smaller) bouquet of fresh flowers.

You will simply glue or tape each running-related item to a the end of the wooden skewer. I used tape, but hot glue would stick a lot better, and it would still be fairly easily pull off most items packaged in plastic.

Once all of your items are attached to the wood skewer, arrange the flowers and skewer in the water bottle. Don’t forget to add a little bit of water to the water bottle.

Materials

  • pink, red, or white water bottle
  • bouquet of fresh flowers
  • 6-8 wooden skewers
  • 6-8 small, lightweight runner-related items
  • hot glue gun or tape

Directions

1. Glue or tape each item to the end of a wooden skewer.

2. Fill water bottle with a little bit of water, and arrange flowers and skewers in the water bottle.

3. Give to your Valentine.

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.
