50 Miles and Feeling Better

I feel like I turned a corner this past week with my workouts!

I felt quite a bit better during most of these workouts, and I had NO hip pain all week, which is a huge plus as well. I’m not entirely sure what was different about this week. I have been trying to be more diligent about taking my vitamins (multivitamin, fish oil, and iron), so maybe that helped?? Otherwise things have been pretty normal. I hit 50 miles this week, so I am really close to hitting 2000 miles for the year!

Cullen fell asleep in the stroller, so he was still a little groggy from his nap.

Workouts from December 11 – 17, 2017

Monday

8 miles, easy | 8:30 average pace

I did this run in the evening after Craig got home from work, which was a nice change from my early morning runs. I like to switch it up every once in a while, but I will always be a morning runner–have been for 10+ years. I actually felt really good–and awake (ha!)–during this run.

Tuesday

5 miles, easy | 9:33 average pace

Easy (but not-so-fast) run pushing the stroller to the grocery store to pick up a few things for dinner. There were some slow-going sections that were bumpy and difficult to push the stroller across. Luckily Cullen fell asleep for 30 minutes during our outing.

Wednesday

7 miles, drill work | 8:40 average pace + 20 minutes of weights

Ran from the gym and half way through my route, I stopped in a parking lot to do some drill work. Afterwards I lifted for about 20 minutes.

Thursday

Off

Friday

9 miles, interval workout on the treadmill

2 mile warm-up
2 x 200 meters (0:41 = 5:30 pace)
2 x 400 meters (1:25, 1:26 = 5:42, 5:46 pace)
600 meters (2:12 = 5:55 pace)
800 meters (3:01 = 6:04 pace)
600 meters (2:12 = 5:56 pace)
2 x 400 meters (1:26, 1:27 = 5:46, 5:50 pace)
2 x 200 meters (0:41 = 5:30 pace)
cool-down to 9 miles

I did this same workout a couple years ago and sadly I was more fit 11 months postpartum than I am now! I was still pretty happy with how this workout went though considering I haven’t felt great these past couple of months.

Saturday

6 miles, easy + 30 minutes weights

Easy run from the gym and then a weight lifting session afterwards–and a decent amount of time spent stretching too!

Sunday

15 miles, long run

This long run actually went quite well! Definitely better than last week. I didn’t get a lot of sleep the night before as we were at a party, but thankfully that seem to affect me too much. (I’m sure if I would have gotten more sleep, I would have felt even better!) I did a loop from my house, and surprisingly it turned out to be 15 miles exactly!

Total: 50 miles

I had a super busy (but good) weekend!

Friday night Craig, Cullen, and I watched Polar Express and had popcorn. This is one time of the year I actually watch movies–otherwise it is rare!

Saturday morning I ran 6 mile and lifted weights before heading to work. Saturday was a good day at work (Skinny Raven Sports) as we had a lot of people coming in for Icebugs for themselves or as gifts. We also have a lot of fun running-related stocking stuffers: Runbell (a bell you can ring when you are coming up behind someone on the trail), running Christmas ornaments, Skida headwear, Goodr sunglasses, and Hydroflasks. (See a complete list HERE.)

That night we went to an ugly sweater party. My husband stole the show with his epic fire-breathing dinosaur sweatshirt, and I just wore this “Cheers” sweatshirt because I waited too long to decide what I wanted to do and ran out of time to actually put together an ugly sweater.

Sunday morning I got up early and ran 15 miles before heading to church and then off to work for the rest of the day. Sunday night we had dinner at my in-laws because my brother-in-law and sister-in-law just got into town for Christmas. Then I stayed up too late cleaning my house because it blows up on the weekend when I’m not home, and I hate starting the week with a messy house.

Switching gears to a new Beautycounter palette I am loving! Before work on Saturday, I did a few videos about my new Ocean & Pacific Palette and a tutorial on how to apply the blush, bronzer, and highlighter to my cheeks. (I can’t believe how much I have fallen in love with using blush these days!) I saved these videos and they can be found in on my profile page in Instagram.

Now through Sunday, December 24, I am offering FREE shipping for standard ground orders though Beautycounter. I will reimburse you $5.95 for your order via PayPal. You’ll just need to forward your confirmation of purchase email to me along with a good PayPal address.

If you need help picking any products out, let me know. It is one of my favorite things to do.

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.
