Things I’m Loving Lately #12

I had a wonderful extended 3-day weekend with my boys. For the first time since August, I didn’t work on the weekend, and we actually were able to spend some time together as a family!

Saturday morning I did a long run of 11 miles, but after a few miles my hip started hurting. I tried to pick a path that would be cleared the most, but even the smallest amount of loose snow aggravates my hip. It is impossible to find anything clear in Anchorage as everything is covered in a layer of snow.

Craig, Cullen, and I then left for my in-law’s cabin north of Anchorage. We spent Saturday and Sunday at a very rustic cabin with no running water or indoor plumbing. But it was so nice to have a weekend together as a family just hanging out. Saturday afternoon playing outside and building a bonfire. Then I made Greek Bison Burgers from Run Fast Eat Slow cookbook for dinner and concluded the night with the movie Brave. Sunday morning we all slept in until 8:30 a.m., had Make-Ahead Freezer Burritos (once again from Run Fast Eat Slow), and then hung out a little more before heading back home.

I’ve got a list of some things I’ve recently discovered that are worth mentioning. Everything from a non-dairy yogurt, to a shampoo and conditioner you must try, to a fun ear warmer/headband–for those of you who are still experiencing winter. (Which I know isn’t many of you these past few days. Heck, even in Minnesota, where I grew up, it has been in the 50s and 60s. That’s unheard of in February!)

Burberry Fresh Glow Fluid Base

Umm, I had no idea Burberry had a make-up line. I got this Burberry Fresh Glow Fluid Base as a sample with a Sephora order, and I really like it! I goes on easily, absorbs well, and leave a subtle glow with a hint of shimmer.

ColorProof Shampoo and Conditioner

I have been searching for a good, quality shampoo and condition for quite some time. I searched Amazon, asked friends, but didn’t love anything I was finding. Finally, I asked my hair stylist for a recommendation, and she told me this Color Proof Baobab Heal and Repair Shampoo and Conditioner is a favorite of hers. She and I have a very similar hair color and texture, so I definitely trust her opinion. I have nothing but great things so say about these products after using them for about a month now. I love how soft and manageable it makes my hair, and I am convinced it is helping my highlights stay looking fresh.

Beautycounter Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer

I mentioned this Beautycounter Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer in a previous post, and I have been surprised at how much I actually like this stuff. I find myself reaching for this over my regular foundation more often than not. I love the glow it gives my skin and the fact it is free of harsh chemicals found in most other brands of make-up.

Skida Headband

These are amazing headbands for winter running by Skida. They are fleece-lined, super comfortable to wear, and have really fun patterns. Plus they are made locally in Vermont!

Arc’teryx Cerium SV Jacket

I got this jacket half-way through winter, but I wish I would have had it earlier. This jacket is so warm! I had the Cerium LT (LT standing for ‘light weight’), but it was not warm enough. (It is now my summer down jacket. That’s no exaggeration; I wear down jackts in the summer here.) So I then purchased the Arc’teryx Cerium SV (SV standing for ‘severe’), and it is so much warmer!

Lululemon Fresh Tracks Tights

Craig got the Lululemon Fresh Tracks Tight for me for Christmas, and for once I have a pair of tights that don’t slip down on my thighs. They are really comfortable to run in, and I like the fun detailing on the side. They are brushed with a think layer of fleece, but they weren’t warm enough for me for anything below 20*F.

Kite Hill Almond Milk Yogurt

I was pleasantly surprised with how well this Kite Hill almond milk yogurt tasted. I wasn’t expecting that the plain would actually taste good plain! The fat content is high, but we all know almonds are a good fat.

I spent a good chunk of time last week updating the tabs on my blog. I especially made some big changes to the Recipe tab, deleting a lot of mediocre recipes or blog posts with poor photos. I left my most favorite recipes on the list, so be sure to check them out!

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.

My folks still own our cabin + property off of the Parks highway about halfway to Fairbanks. I want to go up again someday..it’s not accessible by road and about a 2 mile hike /ski/snowmobile ride through two bogs to get in. It doesn’t have electricity or running water in the 16×16 ft room with a loft. So I love reading about your cabin adventures since it makes me remember mine đŸ™‚ So glad you had a long weekend all together, that’s awesome!
