Highlights from the Week

We made it to the weekend! And this weekend Daylight Saving Time ends, which means we get an extra hour. I always appreciate the extra hour in the fall. I’m not sure what I’ll do–maybe I’ll end up going to bed early, but a lot of that depends upon when Cullen is ready for bed.

It was a good week: we celebrated Craig’s birthday, I got in some good workouts, and we had some fun family time together.

Monday

Monday morning was a good 50 minute gym session. I did a bunch of different exercises the chiropractor has given me for my hip. I also weight lifted and did day #1 of Kate Grace’s (a.k.a. Fast K8) strength training plan she did through a tendon injury. I really liked the exercises and plan to follow more of the days next week.

Tuesday

We hung out at home most of the day on Tuesday. I am so good at filling the time with things to do at home, but now I don’t even remember exactly what we did.

I do remember this little rascal fighting his nap every day this week (except Friday). I even took him for a car ride to try to get him to sleep, but he didn’t go for that. Every day I made him have quiet time in his crib for at least an hour though. I guess those parents who say their child stopped napping at 2 aren’t lying. We’ll see how next week goes, but I’m not being very hopeful.

Wednesday

I didn’t get any pictures from the day, so it must have been a pretty low-key day. I had a doctor’s appointment in the morning, and then we went to the library after that. Another day of no napping. I got pretty stressed out when Cullen fought his nap for the 3rd day in a row. I have become so dependent upon this time to get things done and look forward to the time for myself. Plus Cullen isn’t as happy-go-lucky when he doesn’t nap, so I was a little stressed out at the end of the day and very glad to see Craig when he got home.

Thursday

I ran 4 miles Thursday morning, and while I didn’t have pain in my hip, it still wasn’t right by the end. I’m getting to the point where I am beyond frustrated and wonder why I even keep trying. It has been over 4 months dealing with this hip injury, and I’m not even sure if I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Craig’s birthday was on Thursday, so Cullen and I picked up coffee and a treat from Fire Island Rustic Bakeshop for him. We also got him a bouquet of balloons, which was actually Cullen’s idea. Of course we got him a Star Wars balloon. We surprised him at work, and then went and had lunch together.

Craig decided he want to go to Rustic Goat for his birthday dinner, so we headed there as soon as he got home from work since Cullen hadn’t had a nap, and we knew he would have to go to bed by 7:00. He was so tired that he fell asleep in the car on our way to the restaurant and couldn’t even keep his eyes open as Craig carried him into the restaurant. Poor guy.

We had an awesome meal at Rustic Goat. Craig and I both had salmon dishes that were really good–one of the best meals I’ve had in a while. My plate came out, and after a few bites I realized there was no salmon on it. We told the waitress, and she was very apologetic and brought us out a new entree.

Friday

Friday morning I cross-trained on the stationary bike for 45 minutes. I definitely do not love cross-training, but I know I need to keep up my cardio endurance as much as I can.

That morning we had Cullen’s two year pediatric appointment. He still has a giant head, and is very tall for his age. He checked out very healthy, and the pediatrician had no concerns. Cullen’s favorite part was the fish in the lobby.

When we got back home, we took a nice long walk through the woods in the sunshine. It has been harder to get outside because Cullen gets cold so easily (as he oftentimes doesn’t want to keep his mittens on).  He’ll go play in the backyard, but he doesn’t seem to want to play there for long. So it was nice to be outside a little longer than normal, but I am really missing those warm days of summer already.

Maybe the extra time outside helped as this was the first day Cullen napped! He took a 3+ hour nap, and I finally had to wake him up at 4 p.m. I was so productive and made homemade bread, cleaned the house, and did some laundry.

Saturday

I’m working this weekend. I’m thankful I finally have a job I love and look forward going to.

Happy weekend everyone!

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.
