My Boys + 50 Miles

I have been so bad about taking pictures lately. I don’t like lugging my dSLR camera around everywhere I go, so not many pictures get taken. And since I’m old-school and don’t have a smart phone, no pictures get taken on my phone either. This means there’s not a whole lot to recap as I like having a lot of pictures in a post, but here are a few random pictures of the boys who fill my heart with so much love these days.

Look at those teeth! (Cullen’s not Craig’s.)

I really didn’t want to take this picture, but I have to admit it is kind of funny.

Craig was having fun playing dress-up with Cullen.

It was a good week of running–50 miles and 4.5 months postpartum, I definitely can’t complain about that. In hindsight, I guess I would have been okay to run Boston this year. Oh well. I didn’t know how my recovery would go, and since I was almost 8 months pregnant when registration occurred, I didn’t want to take my chances. Here’s a recap of how my workouts went this past week.

Workouts for March 9 – 15, 2015

Monday

9 miles

Tempo run on the treadmill: 10 minutes @ 7:15 pace, 10 minutes @ 7:00, 10 minutes @ 6:45 (3 minutes recovery jog in between the sets). I felt awesome during this workout. Although, when I was running the 6:45 pace, I kept thinking, “Oh my gosh, if I want to break 3 hours in the marathon, this would nearly have to be my pace for the whole 26.2 miles. Yeesh! I’m never going to be able to do that!”

Tuesday

7 miles | 58:00 | 8:30 average

Early morning run. Definitely tired from yesterday’s workout, but the roads were clear of snow and ice.

I also did yoga for 45 minutes and lifted at the gym for 30 minutes.

Wednesday

8 miles

7 x 800 meters

Splits – 3:09, 3:10, 3:08, 3:09, 3:11, 3:06, 3:08

Speed workout at the Dome (our indoor track here in town). The workout went well. I am sure I could have went faster if I would have had someone pushing me. I was still satisfied with my splits though.

Thursday

Off

Friday

5 miles

Easy run on the treadmill.

Saturday

15 miles | 2:03 | 8:13

This went really well despite the temps being below zero. But the pavement was dry, which makes me a happy camper. I picked up the pace during the last 4 miles and was surprised at how strong I still felt.

Sunday

5 miles

Easy run in the afternoon. I can feel the effect from yesterday’s workout when walking around, but I didn’t have any discomfort while running.

Total: 50 miles

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.

Love the frosty eye lashes. We remember those days if running in the cold. Kathy

Love the top pic of Craig and Cullen. And I thought I was the only person in the world who doesn’t have a smartphone. Cool to know that there are others out there, lol. P.S. Good job on the runs. P.S.S. Not to depress you but I’m in Tucson and ran in 84 degree temps this morning. Going to be soooo hard to return to Anchorage.

Impressive workouts! I’m wondering if you do most of your runs these days in the early morning/late eve when Craig is home with Cullen? I’m trying to imagine how running will be for me in the future (I’m 29 weeks pregnant). We don’t have a treadmill, so likely early mornings or late eves.

I do two early runs before Craig goes to work, one in the afternoon/evening, two on the weekend, and the 6th one I take Cullen with me to the treadmill while he plays beside me. It works out quite well so that I’m not getting up early every day to run. And come to think of it, this would be a good blog post. Thanks for the idea. 😉
