Manic Monday

It was a busy but good Monday.

I met Joanne in Eagle River for a run and some time at the gym. Since I had someone to run with a distract me, I was able to run 3 miles without stopping. Woohoo! We then hit up the gym for a 30 minute strength session.

By the time our workout was wrapping up, I was more than ready for lunch. We had a bite to eat at the local coffee shop, Jitters. I had a bowl of chicken wild rice soup, and it totally hit the spot.

I tried this protein drink by Svelte while I was visiting my sister and have been on the search for it in the Anchorage area since. I finally found it at Wal-Mart in Eagle River of all places. I love the flavor of this protein drink, and with 11 grams of protein, 180 calories, only 6 grams of sugar, I am a fan. A prefect post-workout beverage.

I ran a million errands yesterday. One of my stops was at Target, where I was browsing through the baby section. I came across this sunscreen and nearly toppled over when I saw the price. Almost $50 for sunscreen! I sure hope it works well. (It was marked up from the retail price since this is Alaska.)

After stopping at Wal-Mart, Target, Nordstrom, Fred Meyer, and Costco, I finally made it back home just in time to unload all the groceries, make dinner (with help from Craig), and get ready for our birthing class.

Last night we practiced breathing techniques to use during labor, watched a video of a woman in labor (which really makes me nervous!), and gained all sorts of helpful strategies to deal with the pain of labor through each of the different stages.

I’ve been busy again today since 5 a.m., and unfortunately I’m still not done with my to-do list. How does that happen? One might say I am nesting, but I have always been this crazy with trying to get more done than time allows.

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.

Wow! I would say that sunscreen is marked up! We use Alba baby and Badger baby on our daughter but we haven’t used much sunscreen since living in Alaska! I figure she needs all the vitamin D she can get! However, sunscreen is definitely necessary at the beach and in sunny Colorado at altitude.
I’ll have to check out that protein drink, thanks for the tip!

We just recently moved from the Mojave Desert of Southern California with our 9 month old. We spent a good deal of time outside this summer – but definitely did not buy $50 sunscreen! That is crazy. You aren’t even put it on babies until they are 6 months old. Their little bodies can’t handle the chemicals yet. We bought her a cute little sun bonnet and kept her in long sleeves/pants and socks while outside. When she was old enough, we found a suitable bottle of sunscreen and slathered her up (which she hated!) We based all this on conversations with our pediatrician, which are reflected in this article: http://www.fda.gov/forconsumers/consumerupdates/ucm309136.htm
