You Could Sell This in a Restaurant

I was all about being a house-wife today—cooking, cleaning, baking, laundry, etc. But I honestly enjoy these things, so I didn’t mind.

As soon as I got up, I had a small breakfast and then got to cleaning the bathrooms and washing the sheets.

Here are a few of my favorite cleaning products I used today.

Seventh Generation Toilet Bowl Cleaner

I really like this natural toilet bowl cleaner. It does a very good job of removing stains, and I especially like the mild, natural scent that doesn’t smell chemical-y.

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser

I was only recently turned on to this item, but wow! What an amazing product. It removed so many marks, spots, and stains on our walls, doors, railing, and other various items around the house. I don’t know how it works, but it is an amazing product.

Weiman Stainless Steel Cleaner & Polish

We have several stainless steel appliances in our kitchen, and I cannot stand the fingerprints, streaks, and spots that show up on them. I love how well this spray cleaner works. I spray it on, wipe off with a clean rag, and then buff with a second cloth. It leaves everything sparkling clean with no streaks.

After cleaning for a solid hour, it was time to head out for my run. I did a 20 minute tempo run and completed 7 miles in under an hour. It was so sunny and warm—perfect weather for a run. Afterwards I lifted weights at the gym for 30 minutes. I made sure to complete the strengthening exercises for my glute and hamstring because I felt a little pain from my hamstring the last 0.5 mile of my run.

My afternoon snack was this Luna Fiber bar. Honestly I wasn’t impressed. It had the texture of a heartier Nutri-Grain bar, but I wasn’t a fan of the flavor.

Tonight’s dinner far exceeded my expectations and could seriously be served in a restaurant. I first learned about this dish from Tina’s blog post. She raved about it, so naturally I wanted to give it a try as well.

I did change a few things to the recipe:

– I made my own pie crust instead of purchasing one—partially because I’m cheap, partially because I knew mine would probably taste better, and the ones at the store had ingredients I didn’t recognize. It did take me a while though; I used this recipe from Simply Recipes for a Perfect Pie Crust.

– I used 1 teaspoon plus a dash of dried thyme instead of the fresh herb. (Once again because I’m cheap.)

– I also used 1% milk instead of the half-and-half. (Trying to save on a few calories and because I didn’t want to buy another ingredient I might not use.) DSC_0013

I cannot tell you how delicious this was. Even Craig was thoroughly impressed and went back for seconds.

What is one of your favorite cleaning products?

What item do you make that could be served in a restaurant?

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.

I love all of the three cleaning items you lave, and we own all of them! But I have to add BioKleen products. They make stain remover, kitchen spray, and highly Concentrated laundry soap that is very good for the environment (and your skin).

I loved being a stay at home mom which is different from house wife, I know. I never thought it would be fun, but among keeping your home clean, creating different dishes for meals, having fun with your child and exercising when you want to, I was never bored. In fact I was exhausted at the end of the day! I wish I could go back but at the same time I enjoy my part-time job and it gives me the compromise of working and staying home.
When I was pregnant I started getting rid of our toxic cleaning chemicals and started using more natural stuff, especially vinegar and baking soda, but also stuff from stores. My favorite store bought product is this liquid laundry detergent made by Earth Friendly Products, I found it at Costco in Anchorage. It’s coconut oil based and has a “lavender and magnolia” scent but I can hardly smell it. It seems good for sensitive skin because no one in my house has been irritated by it.

Oh, I would never get bored as a housewife or SAHM. I have used that laundry detergent from Costco and really like it! I either buy that brand or the Kirkland earth-friendly brand.
