Weekend Running

Hey all!

I hope your weekend was a good one! I had a very enjoyable weekend and while I didn’t get everything done I wanted to (when do I ever?), I am thankful for the break from work and extra time I had to spend at home and with Craig.

Saturday morning before my long run, I wiped up a batch of Whole Grain Glory Muffins. I don’t often make recipes multiple times, but this is one that I will not grow tired of. These muffins are chalk full of flavor and not dry at all.

They are packed with carrots, apples, raisins, and shredded coconut. With all those ingredients, there really isn’t much dough to the muffin, which I like. Look at all those colors and whole ingredients.

I also love my reusable muffin cups. I feel much better using these because I don’t have to waste paper and my muffin tin stays in good condition.

The final result. Even Craig, who is not a fan of many quick breads gobbled these up.

My long run was done outside on Saturday. It was about 25*F, so not horrible, but I am already counting down the days until I am able to run in one layer of clothing. I covered 11 miles in 1:36. This was definitely nothing fast, but it was supposed to be an easy run anyway.

I felt good throughout the run and enjoyed my time of being able to run. After my run I went to the gym for my 30 minute abs class.

Saturday afternoon and evening was pretty low-key: a trip to the dog park, time at home getting things done around the house, and then out to dinner at Table 6.

Sunday afternoon I met up with Joanne for a run through the neighborhood. We covered 6 miles at an easy 9:30 pace. It was so nice to have someone to run with. I can’t believe how fast the time goes by.

Tonight for our dinner with friends and weekly watching of The Walking Dead, I made Happiness Pie. This is a strong tradition with our cross country running training camp before school started, and I will be sharing the recipe later this week. This is one you do not want to miss!

Time for some questions. Please comment below. . . .

1. What was your workout this weekend?

2. How often do you run/workout with others?

I am lucky if I run with others once a week. It is usually only once or twice a month, but I would love to run with others more often!

3. What are you looking forward to this week?

This upcoming weekend I will be celebrating my 31st birthday! eek!

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.

I did an easy 6 around Eagle River. It was not at all where I need to be, since I’m registered for an 11-mile trail run in Willow on the 8th!

Maybe I’ll see you out this weekend…I’m turning 31 on the 4th 🙂

Those muffins look yummy! I run alone most of the time, but I have a bunch of regulars in my gym that I hang out with when I’m there.

The muffins do look tasty: i’ve got another thing to do on my day off.

    A’s to the Q’s:

    1) not enough, 3 times every two weeks.

    2) getting stronger on my runs…. 55 day streak after my 11:45pm run tonight (:

    Have a Happy Birthday!

Wow! That’s dedication to the streak. Are you streaking just because or another purpose?

That pie is calling to me!

My workout this weekend was about 8 hours of snowboarding. It was a blast. I haven’t gone for a run with anyone in a long time. When the weather starts improving I think the bf and I will start running outside together, or at least I tell him we will, haha. This week I am looking forward to playing a lot of soccer (3 games!). 🙂

I started working out this week, thank you, I only missed one day. I feel so much better, I am not trying to diet now. My goal is to just show up everyday and do SOMETHING. So if I want to start to run in 6 months how should I tackle the tread mill? Do you have any suggestions on how to start slow. I was told once that lower body work outs hurt the running muscles in the body. Don’t do lower body work outs when you run….is this true?
Thanks for the post, going to try the muffins.

That’s awesome! Yes, even if it is something because you definitely don’t want to do too much too soon. If you haven’t done any running before, I would start by walking on the treadmill. After a while, increase the speed to speed walking before turning it into running. When you refer to lower body “workouts” are you referencing the weight/resistance machines? Yes, working out the lower body with running and weight lifting would probably be too much for someone just starting out. Best advice: listen to your body. And really listen to it–don’t ignore the little cues because they could turn into big problems in the future.
