Highlights from the Weekend

It’s Sunday night, which means it’s time to recap my weekend.

I was quoted in this Anchorage Daily News article on winter running.

Winter Running Offers Up Unique Challenges and Rewards

Friday night it was actually kind of light when I left work at 5:00 p.m. What a glorious thing.

After work I stopped at Target in attempt to buy these curtains for our living room. Pretty much everything I have purchased for our new house has come from the Threshold brand at Target. I have loved the design of everything and the reasonable prices.

Next I went to Anchorage Yoga for a Relax and Restore class. I thought there would at least be some stretching involved in this class, but nope, all resting poses. It wasn’t what I wanted, so I don’t plan on returning. But if you want a very relaxing, calming yoga class at the end of your workweek, then this would definitely be the class for you.

Afterwards, I met up with a friend at Yogurt Lounge for a little fro-yo. We hung out, talked, and surprisingly didn’t gripe about Alaska as much as we used to.

I stayed up way too late trying to get things done, as I wasn’t in bed until 11:30 p.m. Way too late for me. I finally fell asleep around midnight and then was awoken when Craig arrived home at 2:45 a.m. He was at his parent’s house and their neighborhood was on lock-down because the police were trying to catch some guy. We then stayed up for at least another hour talking. Naturally my body woke up at 6:30 a.m., and I was too hungry to fall back asleep, so I got up for the day.

Saturday morning was my long run of 10 miles. I was so incredibly thankful for dry pavement this weekend because running on ice the past few weekends has been no fun. DSC_0006

I didn’t even have to wear my studded shoes. I clipped along at a pretty decent pace that averaged 8:19 minutes/mile over the course of the run. It was a really good run. Our temps are no longer in the 30s and 40s but instead the low 20s. I actually wasn’t too cold with two pairs of pants, 3 layers on top (tank top, long sleeve, and jacket), neck warmer, hat, and mittens. DSC_0007

After my run, I went to the gym for a 30 minute abs class. I love taking this class because otherwise I do a few simple crunches, but this class challenges me to do exercises I would normally wimp out on. (planks!)

After a shower and getting ready, Craig and I headed to Pita Pit for lunch.

I ordered the spicy black bean pita. It was good, but I wish I would have had them grill the veggies as well. It it kind of odd when the burger is warm and the veggies are cold. But other than that, it was delicious. DSC_0012

Next stop was a stop at Pet Zoo for some dog food from Sadie. Geesh, I didn’t know there were so many options for dog food. DSC_0017

Sadie could care less about toys, which is a-okay with me because we save a lot of money. She has no desire to fetch things or chew on anything—unless it has to do with food. A friend told me about these real knuckle bones, and it sounded like something that Sadie would love. DSC_0018

At first she had no interest in it. Ha! Even though it smelled like meat, she didn’t chew on it at first. DSC_0019

But then after Craig shoved it under her nose, she couldn’t get enough of it. I finally took it away from her a couple of hours later because it was nearly gone. DSC_0027

We have been having a lot of fog lately, which is very common during the winter here. It is about the only time of the year we have fog. Taken on our drive to church on Sunday morning.

Sunday after church, Craig and I stopped at Gap to use our Gap cash. If we spent $150, then we got $75 off our purchase. This is an awesome deal, but we didn’t see much we liked. Sure there were things that I could have bought, but I just felt like it was enabling me to spend money, so we went home empty-handed. DSC_0004

I didn’t even watch any of the Super Bowl. I know, I’m a bad American. I had too many other things to do around the house: cleaning, prepping food, laundry, washing dishes, etc. I feel like I’m always scrambling to get everything done before the work week beings.

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.

I’m pretty excited to meet Cinthia in person when I’m up for the Little Su later this month. Do you want to meet for a run or coffee or something?

That yogurt looks delicious. I am a huge sucker for good frozen yogurt. I hate it when you have an awesome coupon but can’t find anything you like. I guess your wallet is probably happy!

You are right, we didn’t complain about Alaska, and I didn’t even notice! Maybe because it’s getting lighter, or we’ve accepted living here. Or something.

Also, I got a $25 gapcash card and that was MUCH easier to spend since you only had to spend $50 to get it.

I am so glad the knuckle bone worked out!

I think we’ve given up hope of moving any time soon.

I wonder if I could just spend $50 to get $25 off.

Yeah, expect she’s been pooping several times a day!
