Marathon Recovery

This is exactly how I have been feeling all week. The soreness I experience after running a marathon is like no other!

I have been in full recovery mode this week from the marathon on Sunday:

splurging on unhealthy snacks. . . .

These are actually pretty good and taste just like 100 Grand candy bars. I also splurged on free donuts and desserts at work this week.DSC_0003

enjoying a skinny decaf pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks. . . .

Did you know they use a pre-made mix when they make these? Any Starbucks baristas out there that can share what is in the pre-made mix?? They are still one of my favorite drinks though. DSC_0002

I have also been sleeping in and staying up until 10:00 or 11:00 p.m. every night! My normal bedtime used to be 8:30 or 9:00 p.m.!

It has been very nice to come directly home after work (instead of going for a run or to the gym to lift) making dinner, hanging out with Craig, and taking Sadie for walks.

Yet at the same time, I miss the routine of running every morning. I did run for 1.75 miles this morning. It was very slow, and I can tell my body is still recovering from the marathon though.

Craig and I don’t often have lunch together, but we decided to meet up for lunch today at Yak & Yeti. I see quite a few people in their cafe during the lunch hour, so it looked promising. Plus, we have gone to their main restaurant and liked the food, so we decided to try their grab-n-go version a try. DSC_0009

My lunch date and his crazy expressions. DSC_0006

I ordered a rice bowl with palak paneer (spinach and cheese curry) and a pork curry. Craig had a rice bowl with chicken masala and a turkey curry. We shared the chopped vegetable salad in the background. DSC_0004

Sadly, we were not overly impressed with the food. It was quite bland. All of the curries were mediocre and really didn’t leave us wanting more. The chopped salad was good but not something I would make a point of ordering again either. DSC_0007

Oh well, the conversation and company were still enjoyable.

This weekend I am going to try running again. I’m sure it won’t be much, but I am already going stir-crazy. I have to get outside and enjoy the fall weather before the snow flies.

Questions

What is the most painful thing to do when your muscles are so sore from running a marathon (or any race)?

Going down stairs and sitting down on the toilet are two of the most difficult things for me.

What most recent restaurant was a let-down for you?

What are you running/racing plans for the weekend?

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.

Toilet is always the most painful! Especially after lunges/squats.
I went to a thai food place that was a bit of a let down. Everything was pretty bland, and just really mediocre. The iced tea was good though.
This weekend, I’m hopefully doing a medium to long run with my running buddies. If that doesn’t work out, I’ll probably just do a shorter run by myself. It’s been so nasty and windy lately…. 🙁 You worked you’re body crazy hard during your race, it needs all the down time you’re giving it. Good job! 🙂

I am usually pretty stiff for a day or two but then my legs loosen up and I’m good to go and run either the end of that week or the next…I think after you run a handful of these babies it does get easier to recover. Of course I also believe ice/stretching and massages impact recovery time. Plus you killed it so that also may affect how you’re feeling!! 🙂 Oh and I love those skinny cow treats!

    Congrats on your marathon!!
I used to work at starbucks, it’s a syrup that they call ‘sauce’ because it is so much thicker than the syrups like vanilla. On their website you can find the information for the syrups they sell so that has ingredients list http://www.starbucksstore.com/fontana-pumpkin-sauce/011008514,default,pd.html
I could NOT walk down the stairs after my marathon! It was bad because me and my friends live in apartment complexes without elevators! haha
