Daylight = Mood Brightener

I am very much enjoying the daylight when I start running at 5:30 in the morning. It brightens my mood immensely.

Over the course of one year, I figure I end up running 6 months in the daylight and 6 months in darkness. That is, of course, when I run early in the morning. I don’t even know how that compares to other areas of the country.

I only ran two miles this morning since I don’t want to do too much too soon after the marathon. But even that short distance provided the runner’s high I crave every morning.

After running and getting ready, I met my friend Katie for some coffee and a chance to catch up. We talked about Boston, our jobs, and dreamed about moving out of state.

We hung out at Kaladi Brothers for a little over an hour before it was time to go to work. We were enjoying our time when the power randomly went out. I’m not sure why it went out—possibly because it was so windy? But it reminded me of the time Craig and I didn’t have power for 3.5 days last fall. DSC_0003

Work was work. Yesterday I found a different chair to use at my desk in hopes it will help alleviate my hamstring issues. I still feel my hamstring flare up every once in a while and think it is due to my new(ish) desk job. I try to stand at work as much as possible, which I think (hope) helps, but I thought my chair could be playing a part as well, so I swapped it out for something different.

Tonight I was busy doing some shopping online. I bought this Skinny Solid Black Bic Band. I have two other BIC Bands that I love!

I also wanted to buy these Mizuno Maverick Split Shorts, but Running Warehouse was going to charge me $7 to ship them to Alaska, so I’ll probably ship them to my sister and then have her mail them to me for a couple bucks.

I have a bazillion other things I want to buy: Hunter boots, Tory Burch flats, sunglasses for running, etc., but money doesn’t grow on trees, so I will have to be very strategic as to what I buy.

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.

    i think here i run in the dark maybe 3-4 months/year if i run in the morning. it just depends. i grew up without daylight savings time, so it’s only been a few years that i’ve been living with it since indiana switched so i’m always a little iffy on when the light changes. but it has been nice here- today i met a friend to run at 7 am & it was already light when i left 10 min earlier. yay!!

      Lucky–that you only have to run in the dark 3-4 months!! Where did you grow up that there wasn’t daylight savings? I knew AZ and HI don’t observe daylight savings.

    Yayy! Spring!

    I love BIC bands too, they come in so many fun colors and designs. I tried to buy computer parts once while in Fairbanks, Dell wouldn’t ship them at all. I did the same thing you did, had a family member mail it up.

      I think most companies are a lot better than they used to be about shipping to Alaska?? But I always have to ask: why can’t you just put it in a flat-rate box?!?! But maybe it is because there’s more security/reliability with UPS/Fed-Ex??

    Hope the chair helps! My hamstring keeps seizing up with all my nerve problems. Its no fun!
