Shamrock Shuffle 5K

This morning Craig and I ran the Shamrock Shuffle 5K. This was the second annual St. Patrick’s Day-themed race. Last year we were in Hawaii, so I was unable to participate. (Oh, how it pains me that we were not able to go to Hawaii this winter. I told Craig we have to go again next winter!)

I started out by running to the start of the race—5 miles completed. Oh, and by the way, it was freezing cold this morning: 6*F.

I made sure to wear my mint green Mizuno Wave Rider 15s (This is my third pair!) and new green socks Craig got me for my birthday. Is mixing these two shade of green together considered color blocking or clashing? I’m going with clashing.

Once I met up with Craig at the start, I changed into my costume for the race. (Sorry I don’t have a full-length photo of my get-up. The batteries in the camera died, so I had to put my costume back on once I got home and take a picture.)

I know it wasn’t very St. Patrick-y. I am a cheap skate and didn’t want to spend a lot (or really any) money on an outfit I will only wear once. I had these items from a different race so I wore them again—even though they weren’t green. DSC_0029

I did spend a whole dollar on this headband from Target. I also got a green tie for Craig from the dollar area.

The 5K was a lot of fun. I ran with Craig since I was not racing it. And come to think of it, that was the first race we have ever run together. He sang music to my ears when he said he wanted to do more races this summer!

After the race was done, I ran 10 miles back home to round out with a total of 18 miles for the day! Woohoo! I am so thankful I was able to complete all 18 miles with very minor aches and pains. I felt my hamstring and IT band twinge a couple of times, but the pain went away immediately.

Loved that the sun was shining during my run today! 30 days until Boston!

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.

Way to go Michelle! I ran 18 on Friday with a running partner- so much easier than solo! I will have to try to do a long run with a race thrown in the middle!

How cute are you? I love your shoes too. Mizuno Wave Riders were all I wore for a long time, and then I switched to Brooks Adrenaline. Now I just wear barefoot shoes.
VERY happy that you were able to get your long run in without pain- you will kill it in Boston. I am still trying to figure out a way to be there to cheer you on!
