Christmas Celebrations 2012

I hope you had a very joyous Christmas. We have been busy over here and celebrating with a lot of family and friends the past few days.

Sunday night we were busy making gingerbread houses. Our friends purchased a gingerbread kit at Jo-Ann Fabrics, so we tried our hand at being crafy.

Craig didn’t build his house strong enough so it caved in due to the weight of the frosting on the roof. Poor guy.

Here’s a close-up shot of it.

Three homes were constructed. They were nothing fancy, but we had fun.

Christmas Eve day I had to go into work. That is the first time in my entire life I’ve had to work on Christmas Eve day. For the past 24 years I’ve been in school or teaching, so it was weird to go into work. I did get out two hours early, so that was nice.

Christmas Eve night we had dinner with my in-laws at their favorite Mexican restaurant in town. After church, we headed back to their place to partake in a family tradition of making popcorn balls.

My mother-in-law was the star of the night with her jokes and entertainment. I may have to post a video I took of her talking about how the popcorn balls would be used to throw at villains in the neighborhood.

Christmas morning we slept in and then went for a run! And it was super cold! It was in the low 30s, which felt so much more tolerable.

And look who joined me! I couldn’t believe Craig was up for a run. I ran two miles with him and then finished with three more on my own.

I think this should start a new Christmas Day tradition.

Christmas afternoon we had dinner at my in-laws. Craig and I brought a veggie tray.

I was really excited to try this dip because it is a Greek yogurt dip, and it was really good.

And now it is time to hit the hay before my 5 a.m. wake-up call. Once again, I hope you had a blessed Christmas and treasured the time with family and/or friends.

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.

A belated Merry Christmas to you and your family. Wow! Thirty degrees on Christmas Day? That seems warm compared to some of the other temps you’ve posted. My dad and I usually go out on Thanksgiving morning–I run, and he rides his bike. We’ve never done a Christmas morning workout because there’s usually so much excitement.

I ran in temps in the low 30’s here in Houston yesterday. I guess that was a warm day for you in Alaska! Going for a run is a great Christmas Day tradition!
