I Never Thought I Would

I never thought I would. . . wear a running skirt!

I know I am way behind the times, but I finally own a running skirt and wore it for the first time today on my run. It is a Lululemon Run: Nothing to Hide Mini skirt, and I love it!

I remember when I first learned about running skirts. I think I read about them in a Runner’s World issue, and I’m pretty sure I thought to myself, “I will never wear a running skirt.” But, as you can see that has changed. And I think it is a good thing.

I love the ruffles on this skirt and the feminine feel I had while running in it. I was honestly surprised how comfortable it was.

I think it was the skirt that helped me run so fast today; I felt very speedy!

Distance: 8 miles

Time: 60 minutes

Workout: 4 mile tempo run

My plan called for a 20 minute tempo run but being the overachiever I am, I decided 20 minutes was too easy, so I bumped it up to (about) 30 minutes. Actually, what I did was run an out-and-back route, and on the way “out” I ran at my normal/comfortable pace. Then, on the way “back,” I picked it up and did a tempo run.

I ended up running “out” in a time of 32:22, which is about an 8:05 minutes/mile pace.

Then on the way “back,” I covered the 4 miles in 27:38, which ended up being 6:54 minutes/mile. Woohoo! Under 7 minute miles.

Other things I never thought I’d do:

– live in Alaska.

– marry someone who was younger than me. (1 year younger was acceptable in my mind, but not TWO! Ha!)

– run in college.

– teach an additional 3 years. (I vowed not to go back after the first year!)

– wear skinny jeans.

Breakfast was a lovely (ugly) bowl of oatmeal. I used the same ingredients for my Protein-packed Microwave Oatmeal but made it on the stove-top instead. I think I like it in the microwave better; is that bad?

I always start by eating my oatmeal plain and then with 1/3 of it left, I add some type of nut butter—whatever I’m craving and/or whatever we have on-hand. If I start off eating the oatmeal with the nut butter from the beginning, I end up eating way too much and over-doing it, so this is my tactic for self-control.

The rest of my day was filled with a lunch date with Craig, another appointment, errands, and taking care of household things. I seriously don’t know how I used to work full-time and do all those things. (Actually, there’s quite a bit of stuff I didn’t have the time for before, but I do now!)

Question

What is something you never thought you would do?

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.

That running skirt looks so cute! As does your whole outfit! I never thought I’d wear running skirts either and then ended up buying one from Moving Comfort at my last half’s expo. It was so cute I ended up wearing it for the race! It’s nice to know guys can’t blatantly stare at your ass when you’re running a big race (creepers!!!).

      Thanks!!

Ha! I never thought about your bum being covered more, but I think they might creepin’ even more because it is a skirt!

i never thought i’d wear a running skirt either, but i have one and love it! though mine doesn’t have ruffles so i’m a little jealous. 🙂 actually, alot of what i never thought i’d do has to do with clothes. then i see my little sister wearing something and i borrow it, love it, and get my own. vicious cycle…ha!

I have been looking for a running skirt all summer- but was nervous to spend the money and find out I didn’t like it! Did this skirt “ride up” at all?

No, it did not!! Which is why I love Lululemon clothes. . .they are pricey, but they fit so well and I wear them more than my other clothes. The waistband stayed down, and I completely forgot I was wearing a skirt after a couple of miles. There are shorts underneath with a silicone lining on the inside to keep them from riding up, so that probably helps. The shorts are on the shorter side, which someone else commented about in the reviews, but this one tiny flaw would not be enough to stop me from highly recommending the skirt to people.

I love the running skirt! I’ve always wanted to try one, but wonder if I could actually pull off the look. Glad you found new running gear you like. I think my favorite clothes to buy are workout outfits. 🙂
