Like a Marathon

Workout

Ran this morning at 5:30 a.m.

Distance: 4 miles

Time: 37:20

Weather: 10*F

After work I lifted weights for 30 minutes.

Today was a hard day at work. . . . .a really hard, stressful day at work. I wanted to give up, throw in the towel, and quit. . . .badly!

This school year has been very much like running a marathon: long, grueling, and the finish line seems incredibly far away.

But I was raised that you don’t quit, you don’t give up, you stick it out until the end—just like a marathon.

And just like distance running in general:

I know this school year will end—it always does, but I’m already hurting, and I’m only at mile 13.2 right now, so I’ve got a long way to go!

For now, I will keep looking ahead a few steps at a time, get excited for the next aid station (weekends/breaks), and turn to those who are running the same race and can help me make it to the finish.

Question

What’s your “marathon” right now in life?

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.

I feel your pain!! This is the hardest time of year! In my school discrict, we are on “block” scheduling- which a lot of teachers love, but I hate. Our first semester ends next week, and then we have one day to get to grades done and everything ready for the next semester, and have all new classes with all new kids. I hate starting over in the middle of the year. It’s only ever a good thing if you really despise your classes first semester.
My marathon is losing these pesky 10-15 lbs. Ugh.
(Sorry to sound like such a Debbie Downer- it’s one of those days!)

No worries about being a Debbie Downer. That would be weird to start over in the middle of the year. Losing weight is SO hard!
