Speed Demon

I was a speed demon this morning!

I had a faster pace during this week’s long run than I did during the half-marathon I “raced” last weekend!

Today’s run:

Distance: 15 miles

Time: 2:03

Average pace: 8:12 minutes/mile

Craig biked the first 9 miles with me! πŸ™‚ I always likes it when he comes with me. We enjoyed the time to talk and catch up on things that have been happening in our lives.

~~~~~~~
Running 15 miles gives me a lot of time to think and ponder random things.
Mile 0
Brrr!! It is cold out here! (I think it was about 35*.)
Mile 1
Oh boy, I don’t know how I am going to make 15 miles today. πŸ˜•
Mile 2
Oh wow, I am actually running quite fast today. I’ll probably slow down after a bit though. (I think I was trying to keep up with Craig on his bike.)
Mile 3
Seriously dude! (to a guy driving an big truck) Watch when you are going. I, as the pedestrian, do have to right-a-way!
Mile 4
I can’t believe all of our leaves are already off the trees. πŸ™
Mile 5
Yikes! Still 10 more miles to go!
Mile 6
I’m surprised I have been keeping a pretty decent pace this whole time!
Mile 7
Bummer, I’m starting to get a little bit of a side cramp.
Mile 8
I run past some guy who shouts, “Hup two, three, four.” Um, okay? I’m not in the military.
Mile 9
Took my GU. The strawberry banana flavor is my least favorite flavor. The banana flavor tastes like an overripe banana, and I definitely prefer my bananas on the bright yellow side—just after they turn green.
Mile 10
Oh, boy do I have to pee!
Five more miles to go, Michelle. (Am I the only one who talks to myself in the third person?)
Mile 11
A dark barks and scares me. Go figure!
I’m not sure if I like the Nissan Juke. It looks a little strange.
Mile 12
Only 5K left to go.
Oooo, my feet are starting to get a little tingly and go numb.
Mile 13
(While passing a women walking a Golden Retriever.) I wonder if the Golden Retriever or the Yellow Lab would be the ultimate “All-American” dog?
Mile 14
Whoo! Hoo! Under 8 minutes for that last mile! Let’s try to get under 8 minutes for the last mile too!
Oh wow, I feel pretty light-headed right now!
Mile 15
Yes! Under 8 minute mile. And I’m done!
~~~~~~~

When I returned from my run, I was quite ravenous because it had been 6 hours since I had eaten breakfast.

I ate breakfast at 7 a.m. and had planned to start at 9 a.m., but Craig and I actually didn’t get out until 11 a.m. because Craig was busy making “Bacon in a Blanket” and blogging about it! (Yes, I brought him to the dark side of blogging. πŸ˜‰ ) So when I got back at 1 p.m., I was running on empty!

Smoothie In A Bowl

DSC_0019

I had two new ingredients in this smoothie.

Hemp Pro 50 protein powder from Manitoba Harvest

I usually use soy protein in my smoothies, but I got this sample from my sister, so I gave it a try.

I honestly couldn’t taste it in my smoothie, but maybe I needed to add more?? But then again I probably wouldn’t want this “plain” flavor to stand out too much in my smoothie.

I also topped my smoothie with Cinnamon Raisin Fiber Power Granola by Bakery on Main.

I was pleasantly surprised how authentic the cinnamon raisin flavor was!

A while back I tried one of their granola bars too and really liked it!

I was quite disappointed in my smoothie-making skills today; it did not taste very good.

I’m not sure what made it taste so poor. . . .maybe the frozen fruit? I tried a new blend of from fruit, but it included a lot of berries and cherries, which should taste fine?? Who knows.

Oh, and don’t worry, this is not all I had to eat. This actually didn’t do much for my appetite.

Question

What is your favorite thing to eat after a long run?

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.

    Congrats on the great run! I usually have a smoothie with Spirutein protein powder immediately after a long run, but my favorite post-long run meal is a bagel with almond butter and jelly and eggs on the side.

    I have always been big into running, and ran all throughout my school years. Now that I am an adult with a little child I love it even more. My favorite time of year to run is in the Fall when all the leave are changing and the air is cool πŸ™‚ I put my daughter in the stroller and off we go! Hopefull this year we will get out and do a race πŸ˜‰
