13 Things

13 things for this 13th day of October

1. Fall is quickly coming to a close, and I am reminded of that every time I go outside in the morning for my run!! It has been chilly here!

2. I am realizing I am not as fast as I thought I was. ๐Ÿ™

With my GPS, I have realized I am averaging 8:30 – 9:00 minutes/mile instead of the 8:00 – 8:30 minutes/mile I thought I was running. Bummer!

3. I covered 5 miles this morning at a slow (for me) pace of 8:56.

I went to the track yesterday after school to run 200s, [workout posted here] so my legs definitely weren’t as fresh this morning.

4. I had the worst granola bar ever yesterday. Bleh! I can tolerate pretty dry, chalky granola bars, but this one was awful.

5. I was told I look like a drug-addict! Wonderful!

A fellow teacher to me: “You look absolutely stoned.” [Umm. . .thanks?!?!]

6. Two recent favorite one-liners from students:

A second-grader, “I want a unibrow some day.”

A kindergartener who never says anything immediately rose his hand at the beginning of class and says, “I ate hot lunch for the first time today.” Too funny.

7. This packet of Annie’s fruit bites was my mid-morning snack today. It was much better than the granola bar but with 60 calories, it didn’t do much for my appetite.

8. My lunch today was something to get excited about! [Sandwich courtesy of Great Harvest.] Although I forgot that I don’t like hummus on meat sandwiches. Fail on my part!

9. Nothing like signing up for a spur-of-the-moment race this weekend!

I decided last night to run the Zombie Half Marathon this Saturday!

10. Usually I’m all about trying new recipes but lately I have been remaking some of my favorites:

Vegan Mac ‘n’ Cheese

(I can’t guarantee this is healthier than traditional mac ‘n’ cheese, but it definitely is the best-tasting vegan mac ‘n’ cheese I’ve had!)

Roasted Chickpea Tacos

(Even the roasted chickpeas by themselves are quite delicious in a salad.)

11. I wore this KIND shirt to work yesterday and got lots of compliments on it.

Do the KIND Thing <–there is a KIND movement—check it out!

[I don’t think the other teachers knew about KIND bars; I think they just thought it had to do with being “kind.”] ๐Ÿ˜‰

12. Yeehaw! Today is my Friday (sort of)!!

Today was the last day of the 1st quarter, so we are 1/4 done with the school year. Tomorrow is a grade day, so it will be much more relaxed for me!! ๐Ÿ˜€

13. This means I don’t have to wear sweats, but instead I get to wear “real” clothes!! It’s the little things.

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.

re: #2… with my garmin i had that same realization too. i think for me it has something to do with marathon training and just having tired legs, plus not being in college team running shape too. ๐Ÿ™

1 – I think you need to come visit DC next month. Your fall is way too short.
4 – I tried the annie granola bar in PB and it was nasty. I mean who messes up PB!!
    Happy Friday!

I agree. . . fall is *so* short up here! Three weeks max! ๐Ÿ™ Much to short for such an awesome season!!

I know, what’s up? I have loved all of the other Annie’s products I’ve had in the past, but they failed miserably on these granola bars!

I am ALWAYS floored when people say things like the “stoned” comment. People are seriously….I don’t even know…ridiculous sometimes. I think you are gorgeous!

Fast is relative…you’re super fast compared to me! I always look at your times as something to work toward! : )

I was a little surprised by the “stoned” comment, but then again my eyes are really bloodshot!

I know fast is relative. . . and there are a lot of people who are faster than me, who I look towards for motivation too!

That’s crazy, the stoned comment. I’ve never known you to look anything but timidly kind.
Shucks about the garmin but its a great tool!

Yes, “timidly kind” would probably be a good descriptor. . .and people wonder why I am not cut out to be a p.e. teacher.

Good luck on your half marathon! I am training for the Hot Chocolate 15K in DC. The training hasn’t been going as well as my half marathon training went last year. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Do you know why your training hasn’t been going as well?

Funny you should ask. I was contemplating that this morning on my “long” run. Last year I ran all summer. This summer I was taking two classes, and I didn’t start back training until the end of August. I was a lot farther along in the training at this time last year. Also, I was eating differently. It occurred to me this morning around mile three that I hadn’t eaten breakfast. Last year, I would wake up two hours before the long run, eat, and go to back to sleep. I guess the good news is that this race will be a shorter distance, so I still have time to improve if I go back to my better old habits.
