Pirate 10K

The 10K is definitely my distance!

It is short and sweet (relatively speaking), and I get to run fast!

This morning I ran my first official 10K!

I ran this race all by myself this morning—no family/friends cheering me on, no friends to run with, etc.

I was a little bummed (and lonely at the race), but I still had an enjoyable time. (I have done a couple of races by myself in the past, so I knew I would be okay. 😉 )

It was a chilly morning with temps in the low-40s. (Yikes! Look at all that snow on the mountains!)

The race started behind a hotel in Anchorage, which was really nice because we were able to hang out in the warm lobby before the race started! And use “real” bathrooms! (Oh, the little joys in life.)

There was also a large fire pit outside to stay warm until it was time to start.

It was really neat with the blue-colored rocks.

This was the first-annual Zombie & Pirate Festival that featured an ultra-marathon, marathon, half-marathon, and 10K.

I was excited to run but still not entirely sure what to expect—especially since I just raced on Sunday!

I did some slow jogging to warm-up, light stretching, and then was ready to go!

Overall, I felt really strong the whole way. It was an out-and-back course, so it was nice to know how far I had left to go—plus I could see how many people were in front of me.

I was surprised when I reached the half-way point and saw only ONE woman in front of me. I made it my goal not to let any more females pass me, and I am happy to report I finished second overall for the women! (The other woman was way too far ahead of me to catch up with her.)

Distance: 10K

Overall Place: 13/196

Gender Place: 2/139

Time: 45:03

Average Pace: 7:15 minutes/mile

Mile 1 – 7:41

Mile 2 – 7:12

Mile 3 – 6:25

(I did not see any mile markers after this, so I didn’t get the rest of my splits.)

After the race, I checked my stats, grabbed some free food, and then hopped in my car to get to my appointment for an hour-long massage! It was glorious! 😀

House of Bread is very similar to Great Harvest, but with two added bonuses:

1.) seating inside so you can actually enjoy your food in the bakery

2.) Their sandiwch line is open pretty much all day, whereas Great Harvest only makes sandwiches from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

I got the special of the day which included: turkey, provolone, lettuce, tomato, onion, mustard, and mayo served on honey whole wheat. It also came with a side of chips. Delicious and exactly what I was craving!

I spent the rest of my day Skyping with my sister, doing laundry, catching up on Facebook, and just enjoying my weekend.

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.

    I ran a 10k on Saturday!!! You ran yours in 46 minutes, right? Not 1:46…maybe I read it wrong. I love the distance because I felt like I could really go for it, no holding back to save energy. And training for the 10k is friendlier to my schedule.

      Ha! Ha! Yes, my time was 46 minutes. I accidentally hit ‘publish’ before I was done. I think I originally typed a ‘1’ from doing so many half-marathons. It should be fixed now. 😉

    Wow. You ran fast in that 10k. Congrats!

    I think my favorite distaff would b between 8-12 miles. I can run slower and enjoy the run a little better.

    I like 10ks–long enough to be interesting but not so long as it’s hard to be focused. I also liked the 10 mile I just ran and a 20k I ran last year.
