Signs of Sprummer

Spring + Summer = Sprummer

While it technically is only spring, there are signs of summer popping up all over Anchorage lately.

Recent signs of sprummer in Alaska:

1. People everywhere: walking their dog, running, biking, kids playing in the street, etc. Everyone is finally venturing out of their igloo house for some vitamin D since it has been 6 months since their last dosage!

2. RVs and campers come out of storage.

3. The tour buses start driving their routes and getting ready for the start of tourist season.

4. The ice cream truck. At 2:00 p.m. on the dot, the ice cream truck rolls through our neighborhood selling frozen treats, while playing the song “Under the Sea” from The Little Mermaid. It is actually quite annoying after hearing it every. single. day. in the summer day since I’m off from teaching.

In running news. . . .

I am going to be scaling back my mileage for the week as a rest/recovery week and then amp up my mileage again next week.

I have been increasing my mileage over the past 3 weeks, so it is now time to cut-back to give my legs a little break.

Last week I ran 46 miles, and I am going to scale back about 10 miles this week and shoot for about 37 miles.

This morning I ran 6 miles at a comfortable pace of about 8:30 minutes/mile. I didn’t feel the best (not really sure why), so this might be a sign my legs need a little break.

    1. The sure sign of spring around here is LOTS and LOTS of mud. April is definitely an ugly and messy month. But I always welcome it because it means the beautiful summer is right around the corner!

Awesome looking enchiladas! I had pumpkin enchiladas for dinner last night but yours are much prettier than mine!

      1. It is dirty and brown around here too–not muddy yet because we haven’t had any rain, but those days will come. But like you said, I still welcome it because that means summer is a-comin’.

    1. We’re supposed to get 5+ inches of snow today… how is that for a sign of spring?!? 😉

    1. I have made pumpkin enchiladas before which are the bomb.com. The first sign of spring for me is all the Vitamin D shining out! That and all the people that I have to run by now…in the winter you never saw a soul on runs.

    1. Your enchiladas look AMAZING!

It’s rainy in Kansas where I live, but next week it should be warming up. Can’t wait for summer and swimsuit season!

      1. I can’t wait for summer either–although with temps only in the 60s here, there’s no such thing as swimsuit season!

    1. This is SOOOO exciting! I can totally eat that recipe on my Daniel Fast. (I just have to use whole wheat tortillas and soy cheese). Thanks so much for posting! I am in my last week. (and have only slipped up twice due to forgetting)

    1. SPring is sure here where I live, raining one day and birds singing the next day. I love coming home and seeing so many people out walking dogs and riding their bikes, it brings a smile to my face 🙂
Good call on listening to your legs and taking a scale back week, I need to get better at that myself 🙂

    1. Spring in Minnesota is when the farmer’s have a big “smile” on their face and you see tractors in the fields!! Everyone stay safe this spring and slow down for those tractors on the roads.

    1. Holy mama those enchiladas look incredible!! I will totally be making those this week. I love the black bean sweet potato combo. Its one of my favs!

    1. oooh your dinner looks fab! signs of spring here are when all the students party all afternoon *ugh* but the bike path is filled with kids and pets 🙂 so fun!

    1. Your dinner looks so, so good!

I know it is starting to be spring here in Oregon when the flowers start to bloom and everything is basically pink. Also, the rain. It rains and rains.
