Firetap

Apparently my body decided it wasn’t tired anymore at 4:30 a.m. this morning! And that it needed to be fed! GAH! So I got up and decided to be productive. πŸ˜•

I think a nap is in store for me today!

After yesterday’s sub-par buffet salad bar, Craig and I decided we needed to redeem ourselves with some dessert last night.

After much hemming and hawing, we decided to go to Firetap: a restaurant and ale house on the south side of Anchorage.

We have been there before but weren’t super impressed with the food. It just seemed like your average bar and grill food that you could make at home, but we decided to give it a second chance.

I was pretty hungry, so we ordered a couple appetizers to get started.

I got a giant pretzel because I was craving salt and carbs after my long run yesterday!

Monk’s Beer Pretzel

Hand-rolled, salted, and stone-oven baked. Served with cheese sauce and stone-ground mustard.

I was worried this was going to be tough and dense like your traditional salted pretzel, but it was actually the complete opposite: doughy and soft! You could definitely tell it was hand-made!

With the stone-ground mustard and cheese, it was the perfect combination!Craig went with a bowl of clam chowder soup. He was worried it was going to taste like canned soup, but once again, we were pleasantly surprised!

It was creamy, full of flavor, and had large pieces of clams and the right amount of potatoes!

Craig also had a hefeweizen.

Then it was time for my favorite part of the meal: dessert. πŸ™‚

Check out this baby!

Beggar’s Purse

Sweet Italian cheese and Guinness chocolate ganache stashed in a purse of flaky phyllo dough. Baked golden brown then drizzled with hot fudge.

Oh yeah! This definitely made up for the awful salads we had earlier today!

We had a wonderful evening just hanging out and talking. Often we get so busy doing our own thing in the evenings after work that we don’t spend much time hanging out and talking, so it is always fun to be able to do that! πŸ™‚

No big plans for the day: church, some cleaning, prep work for the week, and hopefully a walk with Craig!

I love guiness in my dessert as weird as that it is. I think it makes everything taste so much better.

That pretzel looks so good. I would take that over the dessert I think.

Both the pretzel and the dessert look INCREDIBLE!! I really want to try making soft pretzels soon. My favorite part is the doughy center. Yum.

Sometimes I wake up at 4:30 too. I hate that!
