Spring Break Indulgences

Usually during my breaks from school, I’m running around like a mad-woman trying to get as much as humanly possible done: cleaning, laundry, running errands, paying bills. . . .you know, all the fun stuff! 😉

However, during this break, I feel like I’ve really had a chance to relax and do some things that I don’t normally have the time to do. 🙂

Things I have indulged in so far this week:

Sleeping

I’ve been sleeping in to a whopping 6:30 a.m. 😕 I guess that’s what happens when your body is used to waking up at 5 a.m. Ah well, at least I am not waking up to an alarm clock.

Hot Breakfasts

I love making hot breakfasts for Craig and myself. . . . pancakes, French toast, oatmeal!

Watching the Morning News on TV

After breakfast, I love being able to sit down on the couch, watch The Early Show, and read blogs. . . . .a perfect morning in my book!

Watching Movies

Okay, so I’ve only watched one movie, but that’s an accomplishment for me.

I am ashamed to say that this was the first time I’ve seen The Notebook. I’m not one to stay up on the latest and greatest films.

Shopping

I really enjoy shopping but rarely have the time to go on my weekends, so I’ve hit up a couple of consignment stores and the mall today. I have yet to purchase anything, but I guess that’s not always a bad thing.

Don’t mind the super dirty snow. Everywhere you go during this time of the year looks like that: “snirt” (as my aunt called it) = snow + dirt!

Free Doughnuts and Coffee

What more can I say?

Baking/Cooking

I actually have time to make things like this Pumpkin Spiced Almond Butter from Ashley at Edible Perspective (Recipe can be found here.)

A little time consuming, but super delicious!

Evening Relaxation

Usually during the evenings, I’m running around trying to get everything done before the next day starts, but now I actually have time to sit down on the couch to watch TV with Craig.

One of his favorite shows.

Dessert Twice a Day

Usually, I only have dessert once a day—in the evenings—because I know I don’t need two desserts in one day. However, during break, it is nice to indulge in a little something sweet after lunch as well. 😉

~~~~~~~
Today’s run was one that I would rather forget. I’m not sure what the deal was, but I did not feel so good during my 5 mile run.
Possible causes to feeling like I had lead in my stomach and legs with no juice:
– eating too much for breakfast.
I was starving when I woke up, but it may have been too much before heading out for a run.
– not waiting long enough after having breakfast.
Usually I wait 2 – 3 hours after eating breakfast, but I was out the door within 1.5 hours of eating.
– drinking hot water with lemon juice.
The acid from the lemon maybe had a negative effect on my stomach??
– The air was really cold and had a pungent gasoline order in the air. I’m not sure what it was from, but it was awful!
Anyway, whatever it was, I am glad it was only 5 miles, and I’m hoping tomorrow’s run goes a lot better.
Question
What would your indulgences be if you had a break from school or work?
Hi, I'm Michelle
I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.
    My indulgence is staying in my pjs for awhile and watching lots of Food Network! My spring break is in two weeks, and I can hardly wait!
    I have been on Spring Break all week this week and I loved not having to be busy with work and school. It’s nice to just unwind and relax ya know?
    Your spring break sounds so wonderful! I feel like I have so much in common with you as I would probably be doing the exact same things you are if I was on spring break right now.
    What did you think of the Notebook? I hate to admit it as it’s kind of cliche, but I adore it.
    If I had a break right now my indulgence would probably be a big bowl of froyo and maybe a full body massage :D.
      I thought The Notebook was okay–it was cute but nothing that blew me out of the water.
    I LOVE lazy mornings when I don’t have to work! My mom is a teacher and currently on her way to visit me because she has a few days off. I’ll definitely be enjoying her desire to indulge with many sweet treats and good eats.
    What a cute post. Sounds like you had an awesome spring break! Love the donut coupon photo! 🙂 Glad you liked the almond butter…definitely time consuming, but worth it!
    I kind of a routine similar to yours. Get up, enjoy a nice home cooked breakfast (pancakes because I never have time to make them) work out, take a long hot bath, watch Rachel Ray, drink coffee and lay around till lunch. Usually in the afternoon I wonder around and run errands or go shopping. I love having “me” time!
    i have next week off and i can’t wait! though i really need to get schoolwork done (because it’ll make the next 4-6 wks insanely better if i actually am somewhat productive), i do plan on spending time hanging out at a coffee shop, driving a few hours to see my friend for the day (haven’t seen her in more than a year!), and relaxing at home in my pjs 🙂
    It looks a lot nicer there than here! It still looks and feels like winter! And, a big snow/rain storm is coming our way soon.
      It has been sunny during the day and warming up to the 30s, but the mornings are still wicked cold–as in 8 degrees this morning!!
