Jonnie Beans

What is up with kids having coffee these days!?!? Has anyone else noticed this trend?

I was teaching a class of 1st graders, where we were discussing pop/soda and the caffeine content in them. We then got on the topic of coffee, so I asked them to raise their hand if they drink coffee, and seriously about 1/3 of the class rose their hand!! These are 1st graders, people!! Aye carumba! I told them if they were my child they wouldn’t be allowed to drink coffee!!

Workout

It was another (relatively) comfortable morning in the upper 20s, so I can’t really complain about those temperatures this time of the year. I managed to pound out 7 miles outside, and it was quite enjoyable.

I did an out-and-back route and went out at a comfortable/normal pace and then came back “faster.” I continued to pick up the pace about every half mile on the way back.

I also did a second workout today after work. Both Craig and I went to the gym where I rode the stationary bike for 15 minutes and then ran 3 miles on the treadmill for a total of 10 miles for the day.

While in Minnesota last weekend, Craig, my sister (Kristy), and I had a very enjoyable lunch with my grandparents at Jonnie Beans in my home town.

Jonnie Beans is a super cute, quaint restaurant/cafe that offers soup, sandwiches, salads, and fair-trade, organic coffee.

The restaurant is in the basement of the building, but they have done a nice job of making it feel open, spacious, and is actually well-lit.

I ordered half of a build-your-own sandwich with a side salad.

I appreciated that the dressing was on the side.

My sandwich was filled with the fixings and was deliciously good!

Craig had a ruben sandwich and a side salad. I had a few bites of the sandwich and thought it was a super good!

Kristy, my sister, had a veggie panini that everyone else wished they had ordered.

Kristy working on homework! She had to write an analysis paper about her experience at a restaurant.

I’m off for the night and ready to hit the sack!

Question

Do you ever do two-a-days (two workouts in one day)?

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.

I have worked out twice in one day maybe once. I used to write it down as part of my workout plan for the week, but it never ended up happening to eventually I wised up and stopped writing it in. I think it’s awesome that you can though, it’s definitely not an easy thing to motivate yourself to do!

I love two a day workouts so I don’t feel like I’m ever spending over an hour at the gym. Today I did my bike trainer in the morning, and will lift weights later. But I’m really impressed you did 2 runs, that is something I haven’t done.

I knew you were from MN, but I didn’t realize you were from Waseca. I’m from Sleepy Eye, which is on hwy 14 (west of Waseca). Small world:)

My mouth actually fell open when I read about your 1st graders drinking coffee!! That’s crazy!

Since I teach aerobics, I usually do two-a-days. One workout is all mine, and then the other I do with my class. 🙂 Today it was a 5 mile run in the morning and a yoga class at noon. Not near as intense as you!

No, it is supposed to be “know what?” I seriously ran in 29* weather yesterday, and I still had 2 pairs of pants, 3 layers on top, a hat, and mittens on–what gives?? You are so lucky!

The restaurant scene is Waseca is awesome. I don’t think there is a place in that town not worth eating at.

Michelle, I have something to ease the pain of your first graders’ coffee addiction:

I was teaching a nutrition class to third graders, and we had salads with apple cider dressing. Some of my students had NEVER eaten lettuce before, but everyone was asking me for seconds on the salad by the time our class was through!

I think parents underestimate what kids will eat. =)

I just stumbled across your website and LOVE it! We have so much in common- All of my meals feature a HUGE salad too haha.

Anyways, I used to do 2-a-day workouts in college when training for the Boston Marathon. I really would like to start doing them again- it feels so gratifying at the end of the day and its better to spread the workouts out every once in a while than do a long one everyday.

Great Blog! 😉 I’ll be reading it more!

Hi Michelle, I’m new to your blog and have been checking out some of the archived posts. This one reminded me of a recent experience: I was in a Starbucks this weekend and the barista called out “I have two kiddie lattes here!” I was like, a KIDDIE LATTE? I didn’t even know they made those!
