Celebrity Sighting

Ohmygosh! Ohmygosh! Ohmygosh! I totally saw Drew Barrymore–live and in person yesterday–at a local cafe here in Anchorage!!

(I did not take this picture, but she did have a puffy jacket on and a stocking hat. She fit in quite well, and most people probably didn’t even realize who she was!)

Now, you’ll have to give me the benefit of the doubt because I’ve lived a sheltered life and honestly cannot think of any other celebrity I’ve seen randomly, out-and-about. I’m sure if you live in/near Hollywood or another major metropolitan area, it happens quite often, but seeing I grew up in a small town in Minnesota, a celebrity for us was see the city mayor grabbing a cup of joe from McDonald’s!

So here’s how I accidentally rubbed elbows with Drew Barrymore.

After some serious shopping, Craig and I headed to Middle Way Cafe to get some food. We sat down at our table, but when I realized we didn’t have any napkins, I went back to the front counter to grab some for us. As I turned around, to head back to our table, I looked up a saw a girl/women talking to one of the employees. I looked at her and thought to myself, “wow, she looks a lot like Drew Barrymore. I wonder if people tell her that often.” And then within a split second, I thought to myself, “oh my gosh, I think that was Drew Barrymore!” I scurried back to the table with a star-struck look on my face, I’m sure, and proceeded to tell Craig to go and confirm my speculation. When he returned, he affirmed I was correct!! Ahhhh!! I was freaking out–heck, I still am!

I knew Drew Barrymore was up here shooting the movie Everybody Loves Whales, but I didn’t think I would actually see any of the cast in person.

Well, with all that excitement, I barely remember eating my food. 😉 Just kidding. I do, and it was wonderful!

Middle Way Cafe: one of my favorite cafes in Anchorage

Cute, modern, and a little hippy!

Love the decor and colors!

Our wicked awesome smoothie: strawberries, bananas, orange juice, and ginger. This had to be the best smoothie I’ve ever had!

My handsome date telling me how short Steven Tyler from Aerosmith is after spotting him at the Anchorage airport one time.

My combo plate–half of a sandwich and a side salad.

House green salad with lemon tahini dressing. I loved the pumpkin seeds on top!

Mayflower Sandwich: lean smoked turkey, lettuce, tomato, provolone cheese, onion, mayo, and dijon mustard served on multi-grain bread. The spiciness of the mustard took the sandwich over the top!

Craig ordered the Nature Sandwich, which is a vegetarian burger. He’s gotten this before but said it was the best he’s ever had! What a great afternoon: celebrity sighting and delicious food!!

When we got back home, we chilled on the couch and watched Love Happens.

Both Craig and I enjoyed the movie! Craig gave it a ‘B,’ and I gave it an 8 out of 10! I wonder what that means that we each used different scales to grade it?!?!

Question

Have you ever seen a celebrity out and about?

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.

Aside from seeing Conan & The Colbert Report being taped in NYC (that’s not really “out and about”) there’s only one other celebrity I’ve seen that I can remember. Not as big of a name as Drew Barrymore, but it’s Mark Valley. He played ‘Brad’ in Boston Legal.

We were grabbing a bite to eat after going to the Museum of Natural History, and he walked by with 2 other people.
It was back in 2007 or 2008, right after we had finished watching all of Boston Legal on DVD. More recently, he’s been in Fringe and Human Target (which I have not seen).

I live in NY so you’d think I’d see them all the time, but sadly not. I’ve seen Renee Zellwger(!!!), Meg Ryan, Borat and his wife and baby, Larry David, Kevin Bacon and his wife Kyra, and David Cross.

I literally would have died. On the spot. I am crazy about celebrities, even if they are only D list celebs. But seeing Drew Barrymore, who I have loved pretty much my entire LIFE…I don’t think I would’ve been able to contain myself.
