Stressors

Wow! What a day!

This daylight savings thing is really messing me up! It is literally dark when I get home from work now–shortly after 5 p.m.–and then by 7 p.m., it feels like I should be going to bed! Gawh! I’m not liking this change!

As tired as I was last night, I somehow woke up before my alarm this morning. My alarm was set for 5:15 a.m., but I woke up before 5 a.m. I tried to fall back to sleep, but once I’m up–and I know I have to get up soon–there’s no falling back asleep for me. So I got up and headed out the door a few minutes early for my morning run.

It was a short run (4 miles), but I was dragging! I did not feel that strong at all. I might take tomorrow morning off to see if giving myself a break will help.

~~~~~~~
I know a lot of my running performance is due to other stressors in my life. My job has been stressing me out a lot lately. I come home at the end of the day and am exhausted from being on a stage all day and constantly instructing the students and redirecting them when they aren’t doing the right thing, which is really exhausting and frustrating!
Not only is my job stressing me out, but the fact winter is here doesn’t help either. It wouldn’t be so bad if winter was 3-4 months, but here in Alaska, the snow will be on the ground until the end of April more than likely. This just makes it really difficult for me to enjoy running. 🙁 I hate putting on 3 layers of clothes and battling the slippery/wet/icy road conditions!
And then with working full-time, running 6 days a week (sometimes working out twice a day), attempting to cook/bake as often as possible, staying on top of keeping our apartment clean, groceries stocked, and my blog has me feeling pretty burnt out lately.
Sorry for all of the negativity, but I do want to be honest here.
~~~~~~~~

Moving on to a few of my eats for the day.

Breakfast was a bowl of overnight oats because Tuesday –> leaving for work earlier than usual –> quick breakfast.

old-fashioned oats + oat bran + plain yogurt + unsweetened vanilla almond milk + agave nectar + chia seeds + flax seed + fresh mango + unsweetened shredded coconut

After work, Craig and I headed to the gym. Craig did the elliptical while I lifted weights.

Here’s a quick run-down of what I did:

– lat pull-downs

– bicep curls

– bench press with dumbells

– deltoid flys

– chest flys

– tricep push-downs

– hamstring curls

– crunches (200), leg lifts, planks

~~~~~~~~
When we got home, we prepped a quick dinner.
Curried Red Lentil Soup + sandwich
Great Harvest Multi-grain bread (that I picked up after work today) + turkey + provolone cheese + tomato + lettuce + hummus + mustard
The bread was awesome! I could have eaten half the loaf!!
Dessert included a serving of ice cream! The chunks of brownie were the best! I don’t think you can go wrong with any Ben & Jerry’s flavor!! 🙂
I normally don’t buy this kind of ice cream because it is crazy expensive, but this was on sale and more than $1 off the original price–score!I’m off to bed now! I hate that the evenings go by way too quickly!
Question
What is one stressor in your life right now?
Hi, I'm Michelle
I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.
    mmm your days do sound stressful. school is stressful for me right now. grad school just is ridiculous and when you’re married and have other priorities besides academia, you’re a weird outcast. no fun 🙁
    Lack of energy while having a large to-do list before baby arrives is a little stressful. But, the biggest stress right now is coming from figuring out holidays and baptism (my brother wanted the same day I was planning even though his baby was born the end of Sept.).
    I love running outside, but running inside might help. Teaching is hard (I’m also a teacher), but you’re making a difference, whether you know it or not.
    Just curious…but do you get snow days in Alaska? My friend from Canada said they never got school off due to snow.
      Last year we didn’t have any snow days. Two years ago, we had three snow days in a row because of *ice*–it was BAD!!! But school usually isn’t closed because of *snow.* Although, when my husband was in high school, they got like 3 feet of snow in a day and closed school. (I think that’s what the amount was?!??! It was a lot whatever it was!!)
    What age do you teach? I work in an elementary school. My current stress: I have been making a real effort to make food instead of buying/taking out. My husband is out of town this week for a conference, so I’ve been on dog-walking duty since Sunday and will be through Friday night. Before he left, he was busy trying to get more data and finish his poster for this conference. So I feel like for the last few weeks I have been doing all the grocery shopping, cooking, laundry, trying to clean the apt (but I’m a little bit stubborn, and was refusing to pick up some of his stuff when I’m doing all the other house stuff), not to mention running (less than you though – about 3x/week, ~15 miles) and working a full time job. I’ve had some long work days too, with conferences, and before- and after-school meetings. Looking forward to a few days off (and not traveling anywhere!) at Thanksgiving.
      I teach elementary p.e. Your life sounds an awful lot like mine with all the things you do to keep up on household things.
      We had conferences the other week too. (I didn’t meet with parents, but I still had in-service.) I am looking forward to a few days off as well!
