How to Get up in the Morning

Okay, so I know you know how to get up in the morning, but what motivates you to get up?

I consider myself more of a morning person, but I would love to go to bed around 10:30/11:00 p.m. and get up around 7:00/8:00 a.m. (When I’m training/running a lot, I need a solid 9 hours of sleep.) But with work, that isn’t feasible, so when my alarm goes off at 5:30 a.m., it takes some motivation to climb out my warm, cozy bed.

Here’s how I am motivated:

* I have a pretty strong conscious, so if I don’t get up to go for my morning run, I end up feeling guilty all day long!

* I know if I don’t fit a workout in in the morning, it most likely will not happen any other time of the day.

* Within 5 minutes of starting my run, I am not tired anymore. Literally. I forget all about being tired and start thinking about other things.

* I know I always feel better after going on a run. I’ve never regretted going on for a run!

* When I run in the mornings, I feel like I have a reason to eat. “I run so I can eat!”

* And many times I don’t even give myself an option. As soon as my alarm goes off, I walk into the bathroom to change into the clothes I laid out the night before.

I know it sounds easy, and yes it may take some time to get used to, but if you set your mind to it, you can do it!

A delcious breakfast is also a pretty strong motivator for me! 🙂

As soon as I got back from my run of 5 miles this morning, I needed something right away. My stomach felt empty, so I had a piece of toast with almond butter and rhubarb jam. I spread the almond butter on, took a bite, and then decided I wanted jam on it as well, which explains why there’s a bite taken already. 😉

And a bowl of homemade Scottish oats with milk, water, banana, brown sugar, raisins, and sunflower butter. I really liked the sunflower butter in my oats!!

Now backing up to last night. For dinner, Craig and I reheated the Creamy White Chicken Chili I made the other day. We were still raving about how good it was!!

Don’t mistake the lack of appeal for the awesome taste!

Question

How do you motivate yourself to exercise in the morning?

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.
