Breakfast + New Products + Lunch

I don’t think my morning would be complete without oatmeal.

I know, I know. I eat a lot of oatmeal, and it probably gets old seeing the same overnight oats and stovetop oats over and over again, but they are hard to resist because:

a.) oh so good

b.) oh so good for you!

So why not eat them!

In the mix:

– almond milk

– plain yogurt

– old-fashioned oats

– oat bran

– chia seeds

– flax

– vanilla extract

– agave nectar

– nectarines

– coconut

New Product Reviews

The following are some new products I’ve been diggin’ lately.

LaCroix – Sparkling Water

I enjoy carbonated beverages every once and a while, but the amount of sugar that can be packed in a can of soda (or even Hansen’s, Izze, or other “natural” sodas) is quite ridiculous!

The LaCroix beverages have zero everything: calories, grams of fat, milligrams of sodium, and grams of sugar. Plus they taste great! This was the first flavor I’ve tried (Cran-Raspberry), and I really liked it.

(Ha, ha, you can see my reflection in the can.) 🙂

Crofter’s Organic Just Fruit Spread

I’ve always known that most jams/jellys are high in sugar, but I figured there wasn’t a way around that. That was until I discovered this:

Crofter’s makes a wonderful fruit spread that is low in grams of sugar yet still tastes awesome!

Planters Almonds

I am picky about my almonds. I don’t like really salty almonds or raw almonds (they aren’t crunchy enough for me.), but these are crunchy and lightly salted–perfection.

Only 40 mg of sodium–just the right amount of salt to give the almonds some flavor but not heavy-laden with large amounts of sodium.

Lunch

A tried and true lunch for me:a turkey sandwich,

(100% whole wheat bread with flax, mayo with olive oil, mustard, turkey, provolone cheese, lettuce, and tomato)

organic tortilla chips,

carrot sticks,

a nectarine,

and a small piece of dark chocolate.Running

Yesterday’s run was amazing! I was feeling good, it was a nice fall day, and I did not have any pain in my arch! I ran in my new shoes, so let’s hope today’s run goes just as well! I only ran 4 miles yesterday and will probably do the same today.

Question

What is the worst injury you have battled (running-related or not)?

While in college, I became anemic and struggled with running for 1.5 years. I had NO idea I was anemic. I thought I has asthma and tried a number of prescriptions, 4 doctors, was tested for allergies, asthma, and everything came back normal. It was so frustrating, but now I take a mult-vitamin every day and am totally fine. 🙂

After that experience, I told myself I would never take another day of running for granted!

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.

The Crofter’s fruit spread looks amazing! I love real fruit spread with peanut butter 🙂 Your morning oats look wonderful, too!

Worst injury was definitely a kitchen accident in college–careless use of a butcher knife led to severing the tendons in my pinky. After surgery and a cast for 3 months, I’ve learned my lesson about knife-safety in the kitchen 🙂

i’m not sure if this is the worst injury of all time for me, but it’s the most recent. i got chased & bit by 2 dogs while on a run in aug 08. it was terrible! i had a huge bruise on my leg for weeks. fortunately the dogs had had their shots, but the whole experience was very scary. for the next year that i lived in the town where that happened i was terrified to run in that area!

I remember that in college! Poor Marv didn’t know what to do with you. I’m so glad it got figured out and you are able to run and feel good now.

I’ve had IT band problems a few times since college running, typically from doing too much too soon. For me, it is a tricky one to deal with. Just when I think I am feeling better and can run again, I’ll get a mile or so in and it will start to hurt. Thankfully I haven’t had issues with that for over a year now!
