Saturday’s Happenings

I didn’t know how much of a long run I would be able to do today because of my recent problems with my right arch, but I was still determined to run as long as my foot would allow me.

After sleeping in until 6:30 a.m. (I know, it’s sad.), I prepped some breakfast around 7 a.m., got busy and didn’t get out until 9:30 a.m. for a run, which is way too long inbetween eating and running. After about 1.5 miles, I started feeling lightheaded and fatigued. At first, I thought it was mental, but then realized something was ligitimately wrong. I pushed myself for another 0.5 mile and then stopped to walk. As soon as I stopped, I felt dizzy and knew I needed food ASAP! I took the shortest route back home to get something in my system.

Clif Shot Bloks. I could eat these like candy! However, I stopped myself at half the package, which is one serving.

I like these energy blocks before or after running–not while running because they are too difficult to chew.

I also took a few swigs of Gatorade and water. I waited about 10 minutes for everything to settle and get into my system before setting off again. I felt much better this time around! I ran 2 miles to the track and did a little speed workout. Not an intense speed workout but just something to get some leg turnover in. I ended up running 5 x 400 meters with 400 meter recovery jogs in-between. I then ran home for a total of 9 miles. I can’t argue with that distance when I thought I’d only be able to do a few miles.

Post-run smoothie.

In my smoothie: blueberries, frozen strawberries, almond milk, chia seeds, shredded coconut, and 1/2 frozen banana. I love drinking smoothies with a straw!

After showering and getting ready, I met up with my friend Katie for the afternoon. We did some shopping and then hung out at L’Aroma Bakery & Deli off Old Seward and 100th Avenue. This is a great little coffee shop/bakery to relax at with couches, tables, booths, and a fire place. A great place to be on a cool, rainy day. (Yes, again!)

I was starving and knew I needed something to eat. I could almost feel myself being irritable! The selection of veggies in our house is very limited, so I ordered a salad.

Salad (I don’t remember the name of it.)

– romaine lettuce

– black olives

– sun dried tomatoes

– grilled chicken

– croutons

– parmesan cheese

– balsamic vinaigrette dressing

Despite gobbling it up fast, there was nothing special about this salad. I could have easily recreated this at home. It was just a bunch of Costco foods bought in bulk and assembled on top. The croutons were the best part. 🙂

Food Product Reviews

Another great Larabar!

Coconut Cream Pie which contained: dates, unsweetened coconut, almonds, cashews, extra virgin coconut oil.

I thoroughly enjoyed this guy at work the other day. My next step is to try making my own Larabars at home!

I also sipped on some Yogi Tahitian Vanilla Hazelnut Tea the other night. I used to drink hot tea nearly every day, but I kind of burnt myself out on it. This flavor has a sweet, chai taste to it. There is stevia in it to give it some sweetness. Overall I like it, but I don’t think I’d buy it again.

Fage Greek Yogurt

Pronounced: Fa-yeh!

At first I tried this plain, but I don’t know I would like any plain yogurt plain, on its own. This makes it harder to compare one Greek yogurt brand to the next. I wanted to try and compare this brand to other brands I’ve had, but I am not sure I could say I like one kind over the other because by the time I add my own ingredients, they all taste very similar. Oh well. This one probably was not worth the $2; I think I’ll stick to making my own Greek yogurt.

I sure do love these stats though!

Van’s Frozen Waffles – Blueberry

Frozen waffles like this are nice to have on-hand for a quick breakfast or snack item. I’ll pick them up if they’re on sale, which these were.

To be honest, I couldn’t taste the difference between this brand of frozen waffles and other brands from the natural food/organic isle at the grocery store. I liked them and would buy them again!

Plans for the weekend. (Warning: I lead a not-so-exciting life.)

– make homemade pizza sauce (from The Pajama Chef)

– make granola

– bake chocolate chip cookies (maybe)

– upload pictures to Costco to have them made into prints

– go grocery shopping to Fred Meyer and Costco

– church

– hang out with friends

– lift weights and do an ab workout

I’ll be back to share recipes! Hope you have an excellent weekend!

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.
