Greek Festival 2010

Greek Festival 2010

I spent Saturday and Sunday afternoon helping out at the Greek Festival, sponsored by Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church.

This popular community event featured Greek cuisine, music, dancing, and a lot of “opas!!” The event is held to raise money in order to help build a new church.

Greece. America. Alaska.

Delicious, authentic Greek food!

A few samples for myself: dolmathes (grape leaves stuffed with rice, herbs, and spices), youvetsi (orzo pasta with pieces of lamb), and spanakopita (spinach pastry).

Spanakopita – filo layered with spinach, onions, and feta cheese

Souvlaki (a.k.a. “meat on a stick”)

Gyros (pronounced- “year-ros” not “ji-ros”) 😉Roasting the lamb.

Now that’s my kind of place!

Loukoumathes (aka “honey puffs) – Craig’s favorite!

$100 per raffle ticket. . . .

but you could win a Mercedes!!

Greek dancers.

Me hard at work in the dinner booth.

The Youth Booth.

Hi, I'm Michelle

I love running around the lakes of Minnesota, running after my two boys, and racing anything from the 5K to the marathon. I have been blogging here since 2010 when I ran my first marathon. I finally secured my sub-3 hour marathon after trying for 8 years.

That looks really fun! So, did you win the mercedes? It would be fun to try that food, it all looked/sounded so good! I’d probably go a little crazy with the coffee and sweets… 😉

No, we didn’t win the Mercedes–someone from our church, who bought 15 tickets, did.

Thank you and Craig so much for all of your hard work, time, and effort! I especially appreciate Craig essentially babysitting our son on and off over the weekend while Rebecca and I could work our 16+ hour shifts counting money and running the souvlaki/gyro booth 🙂
